Back massage technique
The back is not a particularly sensitive part of the body, but its muscles are constantly exposed to overstrain due to a sedentary lifestyle, injuries and stress. Special back massage techniques help to relax them, relieve the body of pain and restore freedom of movement.
This special massage promotes the regeneration of damaged tissues, enhances blood circulation, thereby improving the tone of the nervous and vascular systems, relieves swelling and harmonizes the state of internal organs.
General back massage technique
The back massage technique involves the use of a number of procedures and techniques with the help of which the desired effect is achieved.
The techniques include:
- Stroking;
- Kneading;
- Trituration;
- Shaking;
- Squeezing;
- Impact actions (tapping, patting);
- Movements with resistance.
The patient should lie on his stomach with his arms along the body, slightly bent at the elbows. The head must be turned to the side. If necessary, you can put soft rollers under his chest and ankle joints.
The therapist should sit behind the patient's head and apply oil or massage gel to the back and neck before starting the procedure.
Classic back massage technique
According to the technique of the classic back massage, the whole procedure is performed with the hands, and it begins with manipulations on the upper part.
The first massage actions are stroking. You need to put your hands on your upper back and then slowly lower them along the entire spine. After repeating this technique several times, you must move on to the next - stroking from the top to the shoulders. This is done several times until the oil is completely distributed over the surface.
Next, you can begin to massage the shoulders, and you should start with the opposite of turning the head.
Then they move on to kneading the muscles of the shoulder blades. Each hand should alternately squeeze individual areas of the muscles around them.
The upper part of the scapula, together with the base of the neck, form a muscular triangle. It is necessary to massage this area with your thumb. This should be done smoothly, but at the same time strong enough. The movements should be performed until the tension, tangible with the hands, disappears completely.
Further, according to the technique of classic back massage, the lines along the spine are manipulated. Use your thumbs to press on points along the spinal column. Direction - from the neck to the middle of the back. Then, with a quick sliding movement, you need to return your hands to the starting point and repeat the technique.
The next step is to return to the shoulder blades and the base of the neck.
Pressing is carried out on the area around the shoulder blades, starting from the top of the shoulder and going down. Then they move on to pressure on their flat part: you need to describe circles with your fingers - small and deep. Then the neck muscles are massaged, the movements are carried out from the shoulders to the base of the skull.
After completing a series of all these techniques, you need to turn the client's head and repeat all the movements on the other side of the body.
After massaging the upper back, move on to actions on the lower.
Following a specific back massage technique, you can achieve the desired therapeutic or relaxing effect.
Relaxing back massage technique
To improve the well-being of people leading a sedentary lifestyle, subject to frequent stress, it is worth using the technique of a relaxing back massage. It is designed to relieve muscle tension and fatigue.
Begin this procedure with superficial stroking from the lower back to the shoulders and in the opposite direction. Then they proceed to deep stroking with the edges of the palms diagonally, first from right to left, then from left to right.
Next, rubbing is done from the sides to the spine and back. You should carefully walk this movement over the neck and shoulders.
Next, they begin kneading: with their fingertips, they grab the folds of the skin on one side of the spinal column, then on the other, without affecting it.
In this technique of back massage, classical pressure with thumbs on points on both sides of the spine is also used. After stepping back 3 cm from it, you need to move down from the neck to the middle of the back.
The procedure is completed with a light vibration created by circular movements of the fingertips from the lower back to the neck. At the same time, the hands should barely touch the back.
Performing the procedure, the masseur should carefully act in the area between the shoulder blades. Percussion techniques have a stimulating effect on the lungs and heart. In addition, it is recommended to avoid the use of these manipulations in the kidney area.
