Pharmacological action of Fenistil
Fenistil belongs to the 1st generation antihistamines. By blocking histamine H1 receptors, it does not allow the effects of histamine - hyperemia, increased capillary permeability, edema, itching, etc. - to manifest. Thus, the anti-allergic and antipruritic effect of the drug is realized.
Fenistil is able to block the effects of kinins and exhibits insignificant anticholinergic activity. Clinically, this manifests itself in the "drying" of the mucous membranes, which is sometimes used in the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections with increased secretion of the nasal mucosa. The drug has a slight sedative effect, does not possess antiemetic activity.
