Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The active ingredient of Cervikon-DIM is diindolylmethane, a stimulator of apoptosis of infected HPV (human papillomavirus) and transformed cells, increasing the rate of their excretion. In addition, it induces the expression of receptors for γ-interferon, thereby enhancing the nonspecific immune response to infection. The therapeutic effect of the drug is based on this.
Diindolylmethane also contributes to the normalization of estradiol metabolism in HPV-infected cells, which interferes with the synthesis of 16α-hydroxyestrone (a carcinogenic estrogen metabolite), which is responsible for the activation of the expression of HPV oncogenes. By inhibiting the expression of the HPV viral oncogene E7, Cervikon-DIM blocks the pathological hormone-dependent proliferation of infected cells.
Diindolylmethane is practically non-toxic, the half-lethal dose indicator (LD 50) for it is more than 5 g / kg.
Pharmacokinetics
Intravaginal application of diindolylmethane provides high local bioavailability, while the substance practically does not enter the systemic circulation.
Indications for use
Cervikon-DIM is recommended for the treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (dysplasia) of the cervix.
The drug is effective regardless of the results of detecting human papillomavirus infection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR diagnostics).
Contraindications
- pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
- children and adolescents under 18 years of age;
- individual hypersensitivity to any of the components in the suppository composition.

Reviews about Cervikon-DIM
Women who used the drug leave a lot of rather contradictory reviews about Cervicone-DIM. Some patients claim that the use of this gentle method of therapy helped them avoid surgery and allowed them to start preparing for pregnancy. Their complaints were caused only by the high cost of the drug, a long course and minor side effects in the form of discomfort due to the leakage of suppositories after application.
But many patients claim that the experience of using Cervikon-DIM suppositories turned out to be negative, in the absence of the expected therapeutic effect, they had to endure very strong allergic reactions in the form of itching and burning, which did not go away for a long time.
