Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Mucosol is an expectorant and mucolytic drug, the action of which is due to the activation of sialic transferase.
Taking the drug helps to normalize the quantitative ratio of neutral and acidic sialomucins of bronchial secretions: increases the amount of hydroxysialoglycopeptides, reduces the amount of neutral glycopeptides. The drug reduces cough, facilitates the discharge of sputum and mucus, reduces the viscosity of bronchial secretions and sinus secretions.
By reducing the number of goblet cells, especially in the terminal bronchi, regenerating and normalizing the structure of the mucous membrane, Mucosol reduces mucus production, as well as improves mucociliary clearance and restores the secretion of immunologically active immunoglobulin A.
Pharmacokinetics
The main pharmacokinetic characteristics of carbocisteine:
- absorption: quickly and almost completely absorbed; the time to reach the maximum concentration in blood plasma (TC max) and in the mucous membrane varies from 1.5 to 2 hours; for 8 hours, its therapeutic concentration is maintained in the blood;
- distribution: lingers longest in the middle ear, liver and blood; in high concentrations (17.5% of the dose taken) accumulates in bronchial secretions;
- metabolism: metabolized in the liver through presystemic elimination (first pass effect through the liver);
- excretion: from 60 to 90% of the substance is excreted by the kidneys unchanged, the rest is in the form of metabolites; half-life (T 1/2) is 2-3.15 hours; it is completely eliminated after 3 days after administration.
Indications for use
- bronchiectasis, bronchitis, bronchial asthma, tracheobronchitis, tracheitis (infectious and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory system, accompanied by the formation of high-viscosity sputum);
- sinusitis, otitis media, adenoiditis, rhinitis (inflammatory pathologies of the middle ear, nose and its paranasal sinuses).
