Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Microlax is a combined drug with a laxative effect.
The main properties of the components:
- sodium citrate: a peptizing agent that helps to displace bound water in the feces;
- sorbitol: necessary to enhance the laxative effect, which is provided by stimulating the flow of water into the intestines;
- Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate: promotes liquefaction of intestinal contents.
An increase in the amount of water, which occurs due to peptization and liquefaction, leads to a softening of the feces and, as a result, facilitates the emptying of the intestines.
The laxative effect develops on average after 5-15 minutes after using the drug.
Indications for use
- Difficulty, delayed or systematically insufficient defecation (constipation), including with encopresis;
- Preparation of the intestine for rectoscopy (endoscopic examination) and fluoroscopy (X-ray examination) of the gastrointestinal tract.
