Solution for rectal administration Mikrolax
Solution for rectal administration Mikrolax

Microlax is a combined laxative that softens feces and facilitates their removal from the intestines.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - solution for rectal administration: opalescent, viscous, colorless liquid (5 ml each in microclysters for single use - a polyethylene tube with a tip with a breakable seal at the end; in a pack of cardboard 4 microclysters with instructions for use).

1 ml of solution contains:

  • Active ingredients: sodium citrate - 0.09 g, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate 70% - 0.0129 g (sodium lauryl sulfoacetate - 0.009 g), sorbitol solution 70% - 0.893 g (sorbitol - 0.625 g);
  • Excipients: glycerin, sorbic acid, water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Microlax is a combined drug with a laxative effect.

The main properties of the components:

  • sodium citrate: a peptizing agent that helps to displace bound water in the feces;
  • sorbitol: necessary to enhance the laxative effect, which is provided by stimulating the flow of water into the intestines;
  • Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate: promotes liquefaction of intestinal contents.

An increase in the amount of water, which occurs due to peptization and liquefaction, leads to a softening of the feces and, as a result, facilitates the emptying of the intestines.

The laxative effect develops on average after 5-15 minutes after using the drug.

Indications for use

  • Difficulty, delayed or systematically insufficient defecation (constipation), including with encopresis;
  • Preparation of the intestine for rectoscopy (endoscopic examination) and fluoroscopy (X-ray examination) of the gastrointestinal tract.

Contraindications

According to the instructions, Mikrolax is contraindicated for use in case of individual hypersensitivity to the components.

  • Infants and children under 3 years - 5 ml (the entire contents microclysters) is administered by inserting a tip on the 1 / 2 length to a mark on it.

The sequence of application of the Mikrolax enema:
