What doctors have been talking about for a long time, finally began to be realized by patients: there are no absolutely safe drugs. All products of the pharmaceutical industry are potent substances that disrupt the ongoing chemical processes in the body. And even if these processes are pathological, there is not always a guarantee that they are interrupted, or only they, and not others, completely natural and necessary. How to replace potent substances? The first thing that comes to mind is decoctions and infusions of medicinal plants.

Non-traditional, and it would be more correct to say, it is traditional folk medicine, offers treatment with decoctions and infusions, the effect of which is supposedly weaker, but also less harmful than the effect of drugs. It is believed that medicinal plants have a milder effect, due to which there are fewer side effects from them. This is often true. Often, but not always. Typically, in medicinal plants, the required active substance is in a complex with many other substances, representing a more balanced structure than just some chemically isolated potent substance.

Pharmacists, speaking of infusions and decoctions, like to cite as an example a story when a cardiac glycoside was isolated from a lily of the valley, which has a healing effect on the heart muscle. When using it, it turned out that the effect was too sharp, and it needed to be balanced with another substance, then one more had to be added, and so several times - until the resulting drug in its chemical composition almost completely corresponded to the lily of the valley, such as nature created it.

Of course, this is not always the case. Plants have a different composition, and it is not at all necessary that they are softer than drugs, especially since the dosage of decoctions and infusions is much more difficult to calculate. In addition, other substances contained in herbal preparations may not be healing at all, sometimes it is from them that it is worth getting rid of in order to get a medicine. It is enough to recall the large number of existing poisonous plants to understand that not all infusions and decoctions are safe for health.

Therefore, the answer to the question in the title, whether it is possible to replace medicines with decoctions and infusions, will most likely be like this: it all depends on the specific situation. In many cases, this is really justified, and allows you to reduce the drug load on the body. But it is far from always that infusions and decoctions of medicinal herbs can cope with a serious illness and not harm, such treatment is especially dangerous in case of oncological pathology. In any case, before you start taking decoctions and infusions, you should consult your doctor. For each plant, as well as for medicines, it is important to observe the dosage and duration of administration.
