Solution for intravenous and intramuscular administration Mexifin
Solution for intravenous and intramuscular administration Mexifin

Mexifin is a drug with antihypoxic, antioxidant, membrane stabilizing, stress-protective, nootropic, anxiolytic and anticonvulsant effects.

Release form and composition

The dosage form of Mexifin is a solution for intravenous and intramuscular administration: transparent, colorless or somewhat colored (in a cardboard box 1, 2, 4, 5 or 10 blisters of 5 or 10 ampoules of 2 or 5 ml).

Composition of 1 ml solution:

  • active substance: ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate - 50 mg;
  • auxiliary component: water for injection - up to 1 ml.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Mexifin has antihypoxic, antioxidant, membrane stabilizing, stress-protective, nootropic, anxiolytic and anticonvulsant effects. It belongs to the group of compounds of succinic acid and 3-hydroxypyridine.

Mexifin acts as a free radical inhibitor. The main properties of the active substance:

  • an increase in the activity of the antioxidant system of enzymes;
  • inhibition of lipid peroxidation processes;
  • modulating effect on membrane-bound enzymes (calcium-independent phosphodiesterase, acetylcholinesterase, adenylate cyclase), ion channels, receptor complexes, including benzodiazepine, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), acetylcholine;
  • restoration of functions and structure of membranes, disturbed in various pathologies;
  • improving the transport of neurotransmitters, synaptic transmission and the interconnection of brain structures;
  • an increase in the content of dopamine in the brain.

The action of Mexifin is due to its ability to cause an increase in the compensatory activation of aerobic glycolysis. It reduces the degree of inhibition of oxidative processes in the Krebs cycle under hypoxic conditions, while the content of creatine phosphate and ATP (adenosine triphosphoric acid) increases. Also, the effect of the drug is aimed at maintaining the structural and functional organization of biomembranes.

Mexifin corrects disorders in the microcirculatory and regulatory systems (by suppressing constriction of precapillaries and arterioles), improves cerebral metabolism and blood supply to the brain, improves the rheological properties of blood (by stabilizing the membrane structures of blood cells - platelets and erythrocytes, reducing platelet aggregation, preventing hemolysis), improving the functioning of the immune system. Reduces the level of low density lipoproteins and cholesterol, causes regression of atherosclerotic changes in the arteries and restores lipid homeostasis, thereby providing an antiatherogenic effect.

Thanks to the use of Mexifin, the working capacity increases, as well as the body's resistance to the effects of various extreme damaging factors in pathological oxygen-dependent conditions (shock, stress, hypoxia / ischemia, cerebrovascular accidents, physical and mental overload), intoxication with antipsychotic drugs and alcohol.

Pharmacokinetics

With max (maximum concentration of the substance) in the blood plasma with a single / course use of Mexifin is achieved after 0.45-0.5 hours. With max in blood plasma when using 400-500 mg of the drug is 0.003 5-0.004 mg / ml.

After intramuscular administration, the substance is determined in blood plasma for four hours.

With a single and constant administration, a significant difference in the pharmacokinetic profile was not recorded.

It is excreted from the body in the urine, mainly as glucuronconjugates, unchanged - in small quantities.

Indications for use

  • cerebral circulation disorders in acute course (simultaneously with other drugs);
  • vegetative vascular dystonia;
  • encephalopathy;
  • cognitive disorders of atherosclerotic genesis in mild course;
  • anxiety disorders against the background of neurosis-like / neurotic states;
  • acute intoxication with antipsychotic drugs;
  • withdrawal syndrome in alcoholism with a predominance of vegetative-vascular and neurosis-like disorders (for the purpose of relief).

Contraindications

  • impaired renal / hepatic function in acute course;
  • pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
  • childhood;
  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Instructions for the use of Mexifin: method and dosage

The method of administration of Mexifin is intramuscularly or intravenously (drip or stream). The dose is determined individually. The duration of use and the dosage regimen depend on the severity of the condition and the effectiveness of therapy.

Treatment begins with 50-100 mg 1-3 times a day. The dose is gradually increased until a therapeutic effect is achieved. The maximum is 800 mg per day.

With the infusion method of administration, the drug is preliminarily diluted in physiological sodium chloride solution.

The solution is injected in a jet slowly over 5-7 minutes; drip rate - 60 drops per minute.

Recommended application scheme:

  • discirculatory encephalopathy (in the phase of decompensation): 14 days of therapy - intravenous stream or drip 2-3 times a day, 100 mg, the next 14 days - 100 mg per day intramuscularly;
  • discirculatory encephalopathy with a prophylactic purpose: for 10-14 days, 2 times a day, 100 mg intramuscularly;
  • acute disorders of cerebral circulation: the first 2-4 days of therapy - intravenous drip of 200-300 mg, then - intramuscularly 3 times a day, 100 mg. The duration of the course is 10-14 days. Mexifin is used in combination with other drugs;
  • alcohol withdrawal syndrome: for 5-7 days 2-3 times a day, 100-200 mg intramuscularly or 1-2 times a day intravenously;
  • mild cognitive impairment in anxiety disorders and in elderly patients: for 14–30 days, 100–300 mg intramuscularly;
  • neurotic disorders and vegetative-vascular dystonia: for 14 days, 50-400 mg per day intramuscularly;
  • acute intoxication with neuroleptics: for 7-14 days (depending on the severity of the condition), 50-300 mg per day intravenously.

Side effects
