Pharmacological properties
Inferon is a mixture of alpha-type interferons, which are produced by leukocytes from healthy donors in order to protect against the effects of the interferonogen virus. The preparation does not contain preservatives or antibiotics. It also lacks hepatitis B virus surface antigen and antibodies to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) 1, HIV 2 and hepatitis C virus.
Pharmacodynamics
Inferon exhibits antiviral and immunomodulatory effects. The drug enhances the phagocytic activity of monocytes / macrophages and polymorphonuclear neutrophils, an increase in the content of leukocytes (with leukopenia), T-lymphocytes (especially T-helpers) and their functional activity. The immunomodulator also counteracts the development of cytopenia and the phenomena of immunosuppression caused by cytostatic chemotherapy and radiotherapy. When performing intramuscular injections, the immunobiological effects of the drug persist for up to 3 days.
Indications for use
- therapy of viral infections in children and adults in combination with symptomatic and etiotropic agents;
- correction of immunodeficiency states against the background of acute and chronic infections of various etiologies.
Also, Inferon is indicated for use in the course of courses of radio and chemotherapy in patients with cancer.

- acute viral hepatitis: 1 injection daily for the first 3–7 days, further administration is carried out after 1–2 days; the general course is 14 injections, the drug treatment can be continued until a stable normalization of biochemical parameters and clinical symptoms is achieved;
- inhibition of phagocytic activity, leuko- and lymphopenia and other changes in the blood count, as well as deterioration of subjective assessments of health during the course of radio- and chemotherapy in cancer patients: 1 injection 2-3 times in 7 days during the entire course of cytostatic therapy and another for 14 days after its completion.

Reviews about Inferon
The few reviews about Inferon found on medical websites are rather ambiguous. According to one group of patients, the drug is a fairly effective tool used in the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections, correction of immunodeficiency states against the background of the development of infections and in cancer patients during the course of radio- and chemotherapy.
At the same time, another group of patients and some doctors are skeptical about the treatment with the drug as an antiviral agent, since they were unhappy with the results of its use in ARVI. Also, some reviews indicate the lack of clinical trials, the data of which could confirm the therapeutic efficacy of the immunomodulator in the treatment of viral infections.
