Diroton is a drug designed to regulate blood pressure.

Diroton has pronounced hypotensive (lowers blood pressure) and peripherally vasodilating properties.

The active ingredient of this drug is lisinopril.

After application, Diroton begins to act in 60 minutes, the maximum effect is observed after 6-7 hours and lasts throughout the day.

Indications for the use of Diroton

The instruction recommends using Diroton when:

• arterial hypertension;
• acute myocardial infarction on the first day;
• chronic heart failure as part of combination therapy;
• diabetic nephropathy (kidney damage) to reduce albuminuria (excretion of protein in the urine).

Instructions for the use of Diroton

Diroton is available in the form of tablets containing 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg or 20 mg of lisinopril. It is recommended to take this drug once a day (in the morning), regardless of food intake, with water.

Indication of Diroton in primary hypertension involves the use of 10 mg of the drug per day at the beginning of treatment and the subsequent transition to 20 mg per day. The daily dose of Diroton for primary hypertension should not exceed 40 mg. The maximum effect of the drug is observed after 2-4 weeks of regular use of Diroton.

If the patient was prescribed diuretic (diuretic) drugs, their intake should be canceled 2-3 days before the start of Diroton. If the withdrawal of diuretic drugs is not possible, the daily dose of Diroton should be reduced to 5 mg.

When Diroton is indicated for renovascular hypertension (caused by impaired blood delivery to the kidneys) at the beginning of treatment, it is recommended to use 2.5-5 mg of lisinopril per day. The maintenance dose is determined by the level of blood pressure. In case of heart failure, Diroton should be used simultaneously with diuretics or digitalis preparations.

The starting dose of Diroton for renal failure depends on creatinine clearance and can range from 2.5 mg to 10 mg of the drug per day. The maintenance dose determines the blood pressure level. During the use of Diroton, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the kidneys, the level of sodium and potassium in the blood.

Side effects

The drug Diroton, the indications for the use of which must be agreed with the doctor, may have the following undesirable effects:

• most often - headache, dizziness, dry cough, diarrhea, weakness, vomiting, nausea, chest pain, hypotension, skin rash;
• bradycardia, tachycardia, myocardial infarction;
• dry mouth, taste disturbance, anorexia, pancreatitis, dyspepsia (abnormal stomach activity), hepatitis, jaundice;
• hair loss, increased fatigue, itchy skin, urticaria;
• drowsiness, increased fatigue, convulsions, confusion;
• apnea (lack of breathing), bronchospasm, shortness of breath;
• anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia, increased ESR;
• angioneurotic edema;
• decreased potency, renal failure, anuria (urine does not enter the bladder), uremia (self-poisoning of the body as a result of renal failure), oliguria (decrease in the amount of urine);
• hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia, hyponatremia, hypercalcemia, decreased glucose tolerance;
• exacerbation of gout, fever, myalgia (muscle pain), arthritis (joint damage), arthralgia (joint pain).

Contraindications to the use of Diroton

The instruction prohibits the use of the drug Diroton when:

• hypersensitivity to lisinopril;
• primary aldosteronism (tumor of the adrenal cortex with the formation of excessive amounts of aldosterone);
• stenosis (narrowing) of the renal arteries;
• decompensated renal failure;
• aortic stenosis;
• changes in blood biochemical parameters.

The use of Diroton is contraindicated in pregnancy, lactation and children under 16 years of age.

Additional Information

According to the instructions, Diroton should be stored at a temperature of 25-30 ⁰ С in a dark and dry place.

The drug is considered usable within 3 years from the date of issue.
