Anisometropia
Anisometropia (anisometropia; Greek anisos - unequal + Greek metron– measure + opos, ops - eye; synonym: heterometropia) is a condition in which the refraction of the left and right eyes is not the same.
The following types of anisometropia are distinguished:
- Eponymous (homonyma) - characterized by varying degrees of the same type of eye refraction;
- Axial (axialis) - due to the different length of the optical axes of the eyes;
- Presbyopic (presbyopica) - due to varying degrees of weakening of the accommodation of the eyes in the elderly;
- Simple (simplex) - unlike anisometropia, in which there is emmetropia in one eye and ametropia in the other;
- Simple hypermetropic (simplex hypermetropica) - simple anisometropia, in which there is hyperopia of one eye and emmetropia of the other;
- Simple myopic (simplex myopica) - simple anisometropia, in which there is myopia in one eye and emmetropia in the other;
- Divergent (heteronyma) - characterized by different types of refraction;
- Refractive (refractionis) - due to the different refractive power of the optical system of the eyes;
- Complex (heteronyma composita; synonyms: mixed anisometropia, antimetropia) - heteronymic anisometropia, in which different types of ametropia are observed on the left and right eyes.
