The following types of sinusitis are distinguished:

- Hyperplastic (hyperplastica) - a chronic course of the disease, accompanied by the formation of polyps and hyperplasia of the mucous membrane; manifests itself by alternating stuffing of the nose, often recurring or persistent liquid discharge;
- Purulent (purulenta) - accompanied by the accumulation of purulent exudate in the cavity of the sinus, often - the formation of cavities in the thickness of the membrane;
- Catarrhal (catarrhalis) - accompanied by the formation of a mucous or serous exudate in the cavity;
- Odontogenic (odontogena) - occurs as a complication in diseases of the upper jaw and teeth;
- Acute (acuta) - purulent or catarrhal sinusitis; manifested by edema and hyperemia of the mucous membrane, fever, chills, pain in the affected sinus and forehead, difficulty breathing, one-sided profuse nasal discharge;
- Traumatic (traumatica) - purulent sinusitis, which develops due to injury to the upper jaw, surgery in the nasal cavity or on the alveolar process;
- Chronic (chronica) - a long-term disease, often with exacerbations and remissions; depending on the nature of the disorders in the affected sinus, it manifests itself as malaise, general weakness, headaches, nasal congestion, fatigue and other symptoms.
