Osteopathy in modern medicine
Osteopathy is a non-traumatic and drug-free method of influencing the body in order to restore the normal ratio of its structures, in the conditions of which their normal functioning occurs.
The method is based on three basic principles, which are both clinical and philosophical basis of osteopathy:
- The organism is a single system;
- The structure controls the function, and the function controls the structure;
- Life is motion.
Osteopathy approaches the body as a holistic self-regulating system. The impact on one function inevitably leads to a change in another function. This holistic approach differs from the narrow specialization that is practiced by mainstream medicine. As often in our time, a person experiencing health problems goes to different doctors. One treats his spine, the other - the lungs, the third - the eyes, these are three different courses of medicines, and even official medicine and pharmacy admit that there are no harmless medicines, and each of them has side effects.
From the point of view of osteopathy, there is only one cause of such a disorder, and the displacement of the vertebrae in the thoracic region will result in impaired vision, pain in the spine and lung disease. In this case, osteopathy proposes to eliminate the cause, arguing that after removing the obstacle, the normal activity of the organs will restore itself, and eliminates this cause by a mild effect on the muscle-fascial tissue, without using poisons.
Thus, osteopathy could bring modern medicine out of the blind alley of narrow specialization, where each organ is treated by a separate specialist with a separate course of potent medications, alas, often inconsistently with each other. In addition, osteopathy offers an alternative to pharmacological drugs, which is extremely important. After all, few people think about the fact that having suffered a serious illness, and having taken a course of drug therapy, the human body requires recovery from medicines. And if you think about the fact that many chronic diseases require constant intake of drugs-poisons, it becomes clear that the alternative is not just desirable, but extremely necessary.
The first steps on this path have already been taken. Some methods of osteopathy, for example, manual therapy in the treatment of the spine, have already become firmly established in medical practice, having proven their effectiveness and safety.
