According to the instructions, Cedex contains the active substance ceftibuten and belongs to the 3rd generation of cephalosporin antibiotics for oral administration. The mechanism of action of the drug is bactericidal, associated with a violation of the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. Cedex is effective even against bacteria resistant to other cephalosporins. It is practically not destroyed by their enzymes - penicillinases and cephalosporinases. A wide spectrum of action allows it to have a detrimental effect on gram-positive (streptococci) and gram-negative bacteria (hemophilic and Escherichia coli, moraxella, Klebsiella, Proteus). In relation to anaerobic microorganisms, the antibiotic exhibits weak activity.

Cedex is well absorbed when taken orally, the simultaneous intake of capsules with food does not affect the absorption of the antibiotic, and the absorption of the suspension slows down somewhat. Excretion unchanged occurs through the kidneys. The antibiotic penetrates well into body fluids and tissues. In the cerebrospinal fluid, its therapeutic level is not reached.

Release form

Cedex is available in capsules of 400 mg and as a powder for the preparation of a suspension for oral administration of 36 mg / ml.

Indications for the use of Zedex

This antibiotic is used to treat infections caused by microorganisms that are sensitive to it. These are infectious diseases such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, scarlet fever, acute otitis media, acute sinusitis, acute and exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, acute community-acquired pneumonia, urinary tract infections (complicated or uncomplicated). Cedex received positive reviews as an oral cephalosporin in the treatment of intestinal infections in children.

Contraindications

Like analogues, Cedex is not prescribed for chronic colitis, allergic reactions to this drug or other cephalosporin antibiotics. Sometimes there are cross-allergic reactions to Cedex with penicillins. Do not use the drug in children under 6 months of age. The antibiotic does not penetrate into breast milk, but it is recommended to use it with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Instructions for the use of Zedex

Cedex capsules are taken orally, regardless of food. For an adult, the dosage is 400 mg / day for 1 dose. In the case of the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia, the daily dose is divided into 2 doses (200 mg 2 times a day after 12 hours). In renal pathology, a decrease in the dose of the drug is required in case of a significant decrease in creatinine clearance.

The pediatric dose of Cedex from 6 months to 10 years is calculated per kilogram of body weight and is 9 mg / kg / day per dose, but not more than 400 mg / day. In cases of enteritis (inflammation of the intestinal wall), it is advisable to divide the dose into 2 doses. Children over 10 years old can take the daily dose of an adult.
