Solution for external use Mardil Selenium
Solution for external use Mardil Selenium

Mardil Selenium is a cauterizing and mummifying drug for the local treatment of skin lesions.

Release form and composition

The drug is produced in the form of a solution for external use: a transparent, colorless or pale yellow liquid with a specific odor, there may be a slight sediment (0.5 or 1 ml each in a dark glass vial, sealed with a rubber lid with an aluminum-plastic cap; in a cardboard insert or plastic tray 1 bottle complete with five glass microcapillaries, in a cardboard box 1 tray or insert and instructions for use Mardil Selena).

1 g of solution contains:

  • active substance: Mardil Selenium substance-solution (solution of selenous acid 0.9% in 90% 2,2-dichloropropionic acid) - 0.78 g;
  • additional components: purified water - 0.22 g.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Mardil Selenium is a solution of selenous acid (0.45% in terms of selenium) in 2,2-dichloropropionic acid 70%.

The action of the main components of Mardil Selena is as follows:

  • CH 3 CCl 2 CO 2 H (70% 2,2-dichloropropionic acid): due to its good penetrating ability, it impregnates the neoplasm; interrupts the vital activity and growth of pathologically altered cells; activates vascular coagulation; mummifies pathologically altered tissue;
  • H 2 SeO 3 (selenium in selenous acid): inhibits the malignant transformation of normal cells into neoplastic ones; has a protective effect against the destructive effect of free radicals on membrane lipids; activates the proliferation and blast-transformation of T cells, the production of cytokines, the function of NK cells; increases the activity of lymphocytes; reduces suppression and inversion of T cells.

On the affected skin areas, when Mardil Selenium is used externally, through dehydration, angiocoagulation and devitalization, the growth and vital activity of pathologically altered cells, including benign skin neoplasms and malignant non-metastatic skin tumors, is interrupted. As a result of the action of the drug applied to the problem area of the skin, there is a direct intravital fixation and further mummification of the pathologically altered tissue in contact with the solution. The immediate effect of the drug is manifested by the characteristic staining of the skin in a grayish or white-gray color. The tissue devitalized after the action of Mardil Selena is dehydrated and becomes dark brown in the process of mummification.

After 2–4 weeks after complete re-epithelialization, exfoliation of the formed mummified scab is observed. Healing proceeds without complications, especially in the absence of a secondary infection, without leading to the appearance of significant scars and scars, tissue deformations in contact with the affected area or organ dysfunction.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption of the active substances of Mardil Selena and their systemic effect on the body when treated with a solution of the affected skin areas were not revealed.

Indications for use

Mardil Selenium is recommended for the external treatment of the following diseases:

  • benign skin neoplasms (cutaneous horn, papillomatous nevi, non-pigmented and low-pigmented nevi, seborrheic keratosis and other keratoses);
  • benign skin lesions of a viral nature (common warts, flat warts, plantar warts, papillomas);
  • vascular benign neoplasms (angiomatous nevus, angiokeratoma, senile hemangioma);
  • non-metastatic malignant skin tumors: basal cell carcinoma (basal cell carcinoma) stage I.

Contraindications

  • a pronounced tendency to form keloids;
  • malignant skin tumors that tend to metastasize;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • age up to 18 years;
  • hypersensitivity to the constituents of the product.

Mardil Selenium, instructions for use: method and dosage

Mardil Selenium solution is used externally.

Treatment is carried out on an outpatient basis under medical supervision, without the use of anesthesia. The solution is applied directly to the surface of the formation, previously degreased with a solution of 70% ethyl alcohol, using a thin wooden spatula or using the supplied glass capillary. Around the neoplasm, after applying the solution, a transient strip of hyperemia and edema appears, passing without a trace 24–48 hours after the end of the procedure. In order to prevent the development of complications immediately after the application, it is recommended to treat the affected area with a non-alcoholic antiseptic 2 times a day for 14 days.

On the second day after using the Mardil Selenium solution, for all indications, the pathological focus is mummified, significantly reduced in size and becomes dark brown. The separation of mummified scabs occurs spontaneously only against the background of complete epithelialization after 2-3 weeks in the treatment of benign neoplasms and after 2-4 weeks in the treatment of basal cell carcinoma.

Therapy of benign skin neoplasms, benign skin neoplasms of a viral nature, vascular benign neoplasms is carried out once, through a standard procedure. The skin is treated by several applications of the solution at intervals of 1–2 minutes until a white-gray or grayish coloration is fixed. A change in the color of the tissue occurs within 2-3 minutes after the application of the agent, and with severe hyperkeratosis - within 5-7 minutes. At the same time, the consistency of the neoplasm becomes denser. The dose of Mardil Selena is set taking into account the size, severity, density and type of hyperkeratosis, and can vary from 0.02 to 0.2 ml. The maximum daily dose is 0.2 ml. In the case of large neoplasms and neoplasms with severe hyperkeratosis, when their incomplete removal is noted,repeated application of the solution is allowed.

For the treatment of basal cell carcinoma, the treatment of the affected area with the capture of 1–2 mm of visually healthy adjacent skin is performed by several applications of the drug at intervals of 1–2 minutes, until a dense white-gray coloration appears. The color of the tissue changes within 2–3 minutes after the treatment, at the same time a change in the consistency of the neoplasm is observed - it becomes denser. The dose of Mardil Selena is determined depending on the clinical form, stage and density of the tumor. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 0.2 ml. The standard course of treatment for stage I basal cell carcinoma includes three-fold treatment of the neoplasm and is carried out on days 1, 2 or 3 and days 8 or 9. The fourth additional application of the drug is possible at the discretion of the doctor after the separation of the mummified scab.

Side effects

Treatment with Mardil Selenium can cause changes in skin pigmentation and the appearance of superficial scar deformities. However, the likelihood of such violations during the normal course of the epithelialization process, provided there is no secondary infection and the presence of an independent separation of mummified scabs, is small. Swelling of the tissue may occur. With individual hypersensitivity to the components of the agent, it is extremely rare for the appearance of allergic reactions in the form of itching.

Overdose

In case of improper use of Mardil Selena, in order to prevent damage to the deeper layers of the skin, it is required to wash off the solution with running water. Healing of the treated skin areas can be carried out independently without the application of additional drugs or with the use of wound healing agents.

special instructions

The drug must be handled with care.

Before opening the bottle, shake it up so that the solution in the upper part of the bottle moves to its bottom. After opening, the bottle should only be in an upright position.

Since the solution includes acid in the composition, it is necessary to be careful not to get it on the mucous membranes or the area of healthy skin, but if this does happen, remove the solution with a cotton swab moistened with water as soon as possible.

Special precautions must be taken when applying Mardil Selene to areas of the skin bordering the eye area. If the solution accidentally gets into the eyes, it is necessary to urgently rinse them with a large volume of water and a solution of sodium bicarbonate 1%, and then consult a specialist.

It is prohibited to remove the mummified scab by mechanical means or by scraping. The process of peeling off the scab from healthy skin should proceed independently, since otherwise, tissue healing and the formation of scars may be impaired.

Swimming in open water bodies and pools, as well as exposing the skin to direct sunlight and artificial ultraviolet radiation is possible only after the problem area of the skin is completely healed. On the day of therapy, water procedures should be limited. Until complete epithelialization is achieved, one must beware of contamination and traumatization of the treated pathological focus.

Before discarding the used bottle, you need to rinse the remaining solution in running water, and then send the empty bottle to the garbage container.
