Ophthalmoferon eye drops
Ophthalmoferon eye drops

Oftalmoferon is an antiviral drug for topical use in ophthalmology, has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, local anesthetic, immunomodulatory, regenerating effect.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - eye drops (5 or 10 ml in polymeric dropper bottles, in a cardboard box 1 bottle).

Content of active ingredients in 1 ml drops:

  • Interferon alpha-2a - 10,000 international units (IU);
  • Diphenhydramine - 1 mg.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Human recombinant interferon alfa-2b, which is part of Ophthalmoferon eye drops as an active ingredient, is an antiviral immunomodulatory antiproliferative compound. Its action is complemented by an antihistamine - diphenhydramine. The latter blocks H 1 -histamine receptors, eliminating allergy symptoms by reducing edema and itching in the conjunctival region.

With local application of the drug, manifestations of systemic absorption have not been registered. This is confirmed by clinical blood tests, during which it was revealed that the content of the active substances of eye drops in plasma is significantly less than the standard detection limit (for interferon alpha-2b, this figure is 1–2 IU in 1 ml). Thus, there are no clinical symptoms of systemic absorption of diphenhydramine and human interferon alfa-2b.

Indications for use

  • Keratitis: adenoviral, herpetic (punctate, vesicular, treelike, cardiovascular);
  • Conjunctivitis: enteroviral (hemorrhagic), herpetic, adenoviral;

Instructions for the use of Oftalmoferon: method and dosage

Ophthalmoferon eye drops are used by drip injection into the conjunctival sac of each eye.

Recommended dosage: in the acute stage of the disease - 1-2 drops 6-8 times a day, then as the inflammatory process decreases, the drug is instilled 2-3 times a day until the signs of the disease disappear completely.

Side effects

The development of undesirable effects during the use of the drug has not been established.

Overdose

special instructions

Application during pregnancy

According to the instructions, Ophthalmoferon during pregnancy can be used only after a thorough series of tests are performed to identify the reaction of the mother and fetus to the drug. It is advisable to prescribe a drug if the positive effect of treatment significantly outweighs the risk of complications in the fetus and future newborn.

Application in children

There is no age limit for the use of Ophthalmoferon eye drops. This is due to the fact that with local use (instillation into the conjunctiva), the concentration of the active substances of the drug in the bloodstream is so small that there are no side effects.

It is allowed to use the drug in newborns, since it has an antiviral and immunomodulatory effect, and it contains interferon. The drug eliminates itching and promotes the regeneration of damaged eye tissues, effectively coping with the inflammatory process. Before using the mother, it is recommended to consult an ophthalmologist, who, depending on the course of the disease and the age of the patient, will select an individual treatment regimen and the optimal dosage.
