Tussamag is a herbal preparation that has an expectorant and antimicrobial effect.

Release form and composition

  • drops for oral administration: transparent reddish-brown liquid with a characteristic smell of thyme (20 and 50 g each in dark glass vials equipped with a dropper stopper, 1 vial in a cardboard box);
  • syrup: brown liquid with a characteristic odor (200 g each in dark glass bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box);
  • syrup 9% (without sugar): brown liquid with a characteristic smell of thyme (175 g each in dark glass bottles, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).

The active substance is a liquid alcoholic extract of thyme:

  • 1 g drops - 500 mg;
  • 1 g syrup and syrup 9% (without sugar) - 90 mg.

Drop excipient: liquid non-crystallizing sorbitol.

Additional components of the syrup: glycerol 85%, thick alcoholic extract of chestnut leaves, Cerestar caramel, sodium benzoate, hydrochloric acid 25%, sucrose 66.5%, purified water.

Excipients of syrup 9% (without sugar): citric acid monohydrate, sorbitol 70%, glycerol 85%, caramel, potassium sorbate, purified water.

Indications for use

Tussamag is a remedy for the treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract, accompanied by difficult sputum discharge, such as tracheitis, bronchitis and tracheobronchitis.

Contraindications

  • children's age up to 1 year;
  • renal / hepatic impairment;
  • chronic heart failure in the stage of decompensation;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation period;
  • hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

In patients with diabetes mellitus, Tussamag should be used with caution.

In the form of drops, the drug contains ethanol, therefore, caution is required for patients with severe liver disease and persons suffering from alcoholism.

Method of administration and dosage

Drops

In this dosage form, the drug can be taken in pure form, dripped onto a sugar cube or diluted with water.

Recommended doses:

  • adults - 40-60 drops 3-4 times a day;
  • children 5-18 years old - 20-50 drops 3 times a day;
  • children 1-5 years old - 10-25 drops 2-3 times a day.

Syrup and syrup 9% (no sugar)

In these dosage forms, the drug should be taken orally, preferably after a meal.

Recommended doses:

  • adults - 10-15 ml (2-3 teaspoons) 3-4 times a day;
  • children 5-18 years old - 5-10 ml (1-2 tsp) 3-4 times a day;
  • children 1–5 years old - 5 ml (1 tsp) 2-3 times a day.

Side effects

When taking drops and syrup, nausea and allergic reactions are possible.

Syrup 9% (no sugar) may cause allergic reactions.

Information for patients with diabetes mellitus: 1 tsp. syrup contains 3.3 g of sucrose, which corresponds to 0.28 bread units in 1 tsp. syrup 9% (without sugar) - 1.85 g of sorbitol, which corresponds to 0.15 bread unit.

Ethanol content in the preparation: drops - 19 vol.% Ethanol, syrup and syrup 9% (without sugar) - 4 vol.% Ethanol.

Due to the fact that a plant extract is a part of Tussamaga, a slight turbidity of the solution (drops) or the formation of a sediment in the vial is possible. This phenomenon has no effect on the effectiveness of the drug.

Drug interactions

Tussamag should not be used simultaneously with oral antitussive drugs and with drugs that reduce the formation of sputum, since this combination makes it difficult to cough up liquefied sputum.
