Streptococcal bacteriophage is a medical immunobiological preparation.
Release form and composition
Bacteriophage streptococcal is produced in the form of a solution for oral administration, local and external use: a clear yellow liquid (20 ml in a bottle, in a cardboard box of 4 or 10 bottles; 100 ml in a bottle, in a cardboard box 1 bottle).
Composition of the preparation:
- active ingredient: streptococcal bacteriophage (sterile filtrate of phagolysates of Streptococcus strains);
- additional substances: 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate monohydrate.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The bacteriophage provides specific lysis of Streptococcus bacteria.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Streptococcal bacteriophage is recommended for the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by Streptococcus bacteria, as part of a combination therapy:
- urogenital infections: pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, salpingo-oophoritis, endometritis, colpitis;
- surgical infections: hydradenitis, carbuncles, boils, panaritium, abscess, mastitis, purulent wounds, burns, phlegmon, paraproctitis, bursitis, osteomyelitis;
- diseases of the ENT organs, respiratory tract and lungs: otitis media, tonsillitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, pharyngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, pleurisy, pneumonia;
- generalized septic diseases;
- purulent-inflammatory diseases in newborns and infants: pyoderma, omphalitis, conjunctivitis, sepsis, gastroenterocolitis and others;
- intestinal dysbiosis, enteric infections: gastroenterocolitis, cholecystitis;
- other diseases caused by streptococci.
For prophylaxis, Streptococcal bacteriophage is used to treat freshly infected and postoperative wounds, as well as to prevent hospital infections for epidemic indications.
One of the important conditions for effective treatment with an immunobiological drug is the preliminary establishment of the phage sensitivity of the pathogen.
Contraindications
The use of the drug is contraindicated in the presence of hypersensitivity to its components.
Instructions for use of streptococcal bacteriophage: method and dosage
Streptococcal bacteriophage is used orally, rectally, in the form of irrigation, applications, injected into the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, in the cavity of wounds, uterus, vaginas and drained cavities.
Recommended dosages depending on the patient's age [single doses are indicated in ml for oral administration / rectal administration (in enema)]:
- 0-6 months - 5 / 5-10;
- 6-12 months - 10 / 10-20;
- from 1 to 3 years old - 15/20–30;
- from 3 to 8 years old - 15–20 / 30–40;
- 8 years and older - 20-30 / 40-50.
When treating pyoinflammatory diseases with localized lesions, the drug should be used simultaneously orally and locally for 7–20 days (according to clinical indications).
If chemical antiseptics were used before using the drug to treat wounds, the wound must be thoroughly washed with a sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution.
Recommended method of administration and dose of Streptococcal bacteriophage, depending on the localization of the focus of infection:
- articular, pleural or other limited cavities: up to 100 ml are injected and a capillary drainage is installed, with the help of which the bacteriophage is re-injected for several days;
- purulent wounds: used in the form of applications, irrigation, dressings, in a volume of up to 200 ml, taking into account the area of the affected area. In case of abscesses after opening the purulent cavity and removing its contents by puncture, the drug is administered in a smaller volume than the amount of removed pus. In osteomyelitis, 10–20 ml is injected into the wound cavity after surgical treatment through a turunda or drainage;
- cystitis, pyelonephritis, urethritis: taken orally. In the case when the cavities of the renal pelvis or bladder were drained, the drug is poured 1-2 times a day into the renal pelvis, 5-7 ml and into the bladder, 20-50 ml by means of a nephrostomy or cystostomy;
- purulent-inflammatory diseases of the ENT organs: injected 1-3 times a day at a dose of 2-10 ml in the nasal cavity, middle ear. The drug is used for instillation, washing, rinsing and introducing turunda (left in the cavity for 1 hour);
- colpitis: 2 times a day, 10 ml of irrigation or tamponing is carried out (tampons are placed for 2 hours);
- purulent-inflammatory gynecological diseases: 5-10 ml are injected daily 1 time per day into the uterine cavity, vagina;
- intestinal dysbiosis, enteral infections: taken orally 1 hour before meals 3 times a day for 7-20 days according to indications. It is allowed to combine a double oral dose with a single rectal administration of a single age dose of the drug in the form of an enema after a bowel movement.
The recommended dosage regimen of Streptococcal Bacteriophage for children under 6 months:
- sepsis, enterocolitis of newborns (including premature babies): injected 2-3 times a day, 5-10 ml in the form of high enemas (through a catheter or gas tube). If there is no vomiting and regurgitation, the bacteriophage is taken orally mixed with breast milk, it is also possible to combine oral and rectal (in the form of enemas) use of the drug, the course is 5-15 days, in case of a recurrent course of the disease, repeated courses of therapy may be prescribed. In order to prevent the development of enterocolitis and sepsis with intrauterine infection or the threat of a hospital infection in newborns, the drug is used 2 times a day for 5-7 days in the form of enemas;
- infected wounds, pyoderma, omphalitis: apply daily 2 times a day in the form of applications (a gauze napkin soaked in bacteriophage is applied to the problem area of the skin or umbilical wound).
Side effects
Adverse effects during therapy have not been established.
Overdose

special instructions
Before use, you need to shake the bottle with the drug and look for turbidity or sediment.

If the above rules are met, the storage conditions are met and there is no turbidity, Streptococcal bacteriophage from an opened bottle can be used throughout the shelf life.
