Omnik is a pharmacological drug from the group of α1-adrenergic blockers used to treat urinary disorders in benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Composition and form of release
Omnic is available in 0.4 mg modified release capsules. The active ingredient is tamsulosin. The preparation also contains auxiliary components (microcrystalline cellulose, polysorbate, sodium lauryl sulfate, methyl acrylic acid copolymer, triacetin, calcium stearate, talc, titanium dioxide, gelatin, indigotin).
Omnik is produced in blisters of 10 tablets, in one carton 1 or 3 blisters.
Pharmacological action of Omnik
According to the instructions, Omnik is a specific blocker of α 1 -adrenergic receptors, which are located in the smooth muscle fibers of the prostate gland, the bladder neck and the prostatic part of the urethra. As a result of the action of the drug, the tone of the smooth muscles of the prostate, bladder and urethra decreases, which leads to an improvement in urine outflow. The active substance Omnik has a high selectivity, that is, it does not affect smooth muscle fibers in the walls of blood vessels, so that the drug does not cause a systemic decrease in blood pressure.
According to the instructions, Omnik has almost 100% bioavailability. The maximum dose of the drug in the blood is determined 6 hours after ingestion. Omnic and its metabolites are excreted by the kidneys, approximately 9% of the drug is excreted unchanged. The half-life of the drug is 10-13 hours. If the patient has severe renal failure, the use of Omnik requires great care.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Omnik is recommended for the treatment of urinary disorders in BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia).
Contraindications to the use of Omnik
- hypersensitivity to the constituent components of the drug;
- severe liver failure;
- orthostatic hypotension (pressure drop with a sharp change in body position).
The use of Omnik requires caution in patients with severe renal failure.
Method of administration and dosage
According to the instructions, Omnik should be taken 1 time per day, 1 capsule (0.4 mg). The capsule of the drug should be swallowed whole without chewing.
Omnic side effects
According to reviews, Omnik rarely causes side reactions in the form of dizziness, palpitations, headaches, asthenia, orthostatic hypotension, retrograde ejaculation (ejaculation in the opposite direction - into the bladder).
On the part of the digestive system, according to reviews, Omnik can rarely cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
In isolated cases, hypersensitivity reactions (itching, rash, Quincke's edema) may occur.
Overdose
There are currently no reports of Omnic overdose. Theoretically, it can be assumed that the patient may experience an acute decrease in blood pressure, a compensatory increase in heart rate. Symptomatic treatment (gastric lavage, administration of enterosorbents, laxatives, vasoconstrictor drugs). If an overdose occurs, it is necessary to monitor kidney function.
Interaction of Omnik with other drugs
According to the instructions, Omnik can be combined with the use of atenolol, enalapril, nifedipine, since no interactions have been identified between these drugs.
With the simultaneous administration of Omnik and cimetidine, a slight increase in the concentration of tamsulosin in the blood serum was found, but this does not require a dose adjustment of the drug.
When using furosemide, the concentration of Omnik in the blood serum may decrease slightly, but the concentration of the drug remains in the therapeutic range.
The use of diclofenac and warfarin can lead to an increase in the rate of excretion of Omnic.
In experiments in vitro (in vitro), no interaction of Omnik with diazepam, propranolol, simvastatin was found.
The simultaneous use of Omnik with other α1-blockers can cause a decrease in blood pressure.
special instructions
The use of Omnik in some cases can cause a decrease in blood pressure, which can lead to fainting. When the first symptoms of hypotension (weakness, dizziness) appear, the patient should lie down or sit down and remain in this position until these signs disappear.
It should be borne in mind that if a patient, while taking Omnik, needs an operation for cataract, then there is the likelihood of intraoperative development of narrow pupil syndrome. This must be taken into account by ophthalmic surgeons during preoperative preparation.
Before starting treatment with Omnik, the patient should be carefully examined to exclude other prostate diseases with similar symptoms. Before and during treatment with Omnik, an ultrasound examination of the pelvic organs and the determination of blood PSA (prostate-specific antigen) are recommended.
