Horse sorrel is a herbaceous perennial plant with large and slightly wavy leaves, reaching 1.5 meters in height. It is also called thick sorrel, horse farm, frog sour. Sorrel is harvested from pastures, river banks, meadows, glades, road shoulders and hillsides with moderate humidity.
Healing properties
The use of horse sorrel in medicine was found due to the fact that its seeds, leaves and roots contain vitamins, flavonoids, essential oils, organic acids, resinous and astringent substances, iron, calcium, glycosides. Seeds need to be harvested in August, and you can collect leaves and prepare medicinal tinctures from them throughout the summer.
Horse sorrel root deserves special attention, it is believed that of all parts of the plant, it is the most useful. The roots are harvested in the spring before the leaves appear or already in the fall, when the stems and leaves of the plant are dry.
Such medicinal properties of horse sorrel are known - it has a bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, sedative, anthelmintic effect, stops bleeding, lowers blood pressure, and relaxes the muscles of internal organs.
Sorrel helps with gastrointestinal ulcers, colitis, cholecystitis, enterocolitis, hemorrhoids, hypertension, skin diseases, cough, headaches.
In a small dosage, the remedies prepared from sorrel help with diarrhea and have a choleretic effect, and when using sorrel in a large dosage, on the contrary, a laxative effect is noted.
Prepared from sorrel tinctures, extracts, juice, decoctions and ointments. Fresh crushed leaves or root also help: they can be applied to abscesses, wounds, and used to treat other skin diseases.
For the treatment of migraines with sorrel juice, wipe the temples and forehead. If you dilute the juice with water, you can rinse your mouth with it to relieve toothache and inflammation of the mucous membranes. The sorrel juice also helps to remove worms.
For the treatment of scabies, an ointment is prepared from the root of horse sorrel. For this, the dried and powdered root is mixed with vegetable oil, petroleum jelly or animal fat. The powder itself from the roots helps with boils and ulcers on the skin. Sorrel roots are dried in the shade on the street or in the oven at home (temperature - no more than 60 degrees). Before drying, they need to be rinsed, dried a little and cut into small pieces.
For ingestion, infusions are prepared from sorrel. This uses the seeds, leaves or roots of the plant. To prepare a medicinal infusion, 2 tablespoons of tea raw materials are poured with boiling water (250 ml), and kept for about one and a half hours in a thermos. For the treatment of diarrhea, this remedy should be taken 2 tablespoons of tablespoons before meals 3 r / day. For the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases - 50 g before meals. For the treatment of constipation, the infusion is recommended to be consumed at night, 200-250 ml each - relief usually occurs after 8-10 hours in the morning. The same infusion can be used to douch with gynecological diseases.
The broth is prepared in the same proportions, but boil it over low heat for 20-30 minutes, use it for the same indications as the tincture. You can store these funds for no more than five days.
For long-term storage, you can prepare alcoholic tinctures on horse sorrel in a ratio of 1:10 if using vodka or 1: 5 if using alcohol. Take the tincture, diluted with water, 20-30 drops before meals.
Contraindications for use
The use of horse sorrel is contraindicated in pregnant women, children, and with kidney disease.
