Horse mackerel is a small commercial schooling fish of the perchiformes, living in the Atlantic Ocean, and entering the Black Sea during the period of zhora. Reaches a length of 50 cm, weighing up to 400 g. Occasionally there are large individuals weighing up to 2 kg. The body of horse mackerel is fusiform, oblong, slightly laterally compressed, with a thin caudal peduncle. A characteristic feature of horse mackerel is bony scutes along the entire length of the lateral line of the fish, in some cases with backward-directed spines. They are designed to protect the fish from predators, without interfering with it, at the same time, bending its body during fast swimming.
