Berestin is a herbal external preparation with anti-inflammatory, keratolytic and antiparasitic effects.

Release form and composition

The dosage form of Berestin is a liquid for external use: oily, thick, black, has a specific smell (10, 15, 20, 30, 50 or 100 g each in dark glass bottles, 1 bottle each in a cardboard box).

Composition of 1 g of liquid: birch tar - 100% (phenol content - 0.5–2%).

Indications for use

  • seborrhea;
  • pruritus;
  • psoriasis in regressive and stationary stages;
  • neurodermatitis without exacerbation;
  • itchy skin;
  • eczema, including microbial and seborrheic.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • lesions of sebaceous hair follicles (acne, furunculosis, folliculitis, sycosis);
  • inflammation of the skin in acute course;
  • diseases of the myocardium, liver, kidneys, pancreas;
  • chronic skin diseases during an exacerbation, especially with severe exudation (dermatitis, acute eczema, exudative psoriasis);
  • pregnancy, pregnancy planning period;
  • lactation (breastfeeding);
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Relative (Berestin is prescribed with caution in the presence of the following diseases / conditions):

  • tendency to folliculitis;
  • increased skin sensitivity;
  • areas with increased hair growth;
  • childhood.

Method of administration and dosage

Berestin is used externally.

Recommended dosage regimen:

  • eczema, neurodermatitis, psoriasis: before applying the liquid, you need to remove the crusts / scales using an oil compress. The drug is applied to the lesions of the skin with a hand or a hard brush. At the beginning of the course, the application time is 15 minutes, once a day, gradually the application time is increased to 30 minutes. Remove the drug with a cotton or gauze swab moistened with vaseline / vegetable oil;
  • psoriasis, pruritus: application time - 15-30 minutes. After the end of the procedure, it is recommended to take a shower with shower gel / soap, wash off Berestin with a washcloth or sponge. After that, the lesions should be lubricated with an emollient cream or ointment.

The daily dose is no more than 6-8 g.

The duration of the course is up to 1 month, the intervals between the courses are from 1 to 2 months.

Side effects

Possible side effects:

  • immediately after the first application: sometimes - burning of the skin (simultaneously with the disappearance of itching). As a rule, after 10-15 minutes, the burning sensation stops. In some cases, it can persist for a longer time, then the drug must be removed after 15 minutes, with subsequent use, the application time should not be increased. Usually subjective sensations disappear after two or three applications;
  • application to the scalp and skin areas with increased hair growth: sometimes folliculitis;
  • application on open skin areas (neck, face, hands): sunburn may occur;
  • in some cases: skin irritation in the area of application (temporary interruption of treatment is indicated; as a rule, irritation passes from the use of pastes and lotions, it is not associated with Berestin's intolerance).

Before starting therapy, it is recommended to study the tolerance of Berestin in a limited area of the skin. During treatment, it is necessary to periodically (1-2 times a month) conduct urine tests.

Long-term use of the drug on large areas of the skin (more than 1/10 of the surface) is not recommended.

Berestin leaves dark spots on underwear / bed linen. To remove them, it is recommended to use ammonia (1 tablespoon / 10 l of water).

During a long course, the drug can stain the skin a dark color (it goes away on its own soon after the end of therapy).

When exposed to light hair, Berestina darkens somewhat.

Drug interactions

With the combined use of Berestin with certain drugs / substances, the following effects may develop:

  • sulfa drugs, phenothiazine derivatives and other drugs that can increase skin photosensitivity: the combination is contraindicated;
  • preparations containing sulfur and salicylic acid: strengthening the action of Berestin.

Terms and conditions of storage

Store in a dark place, out of reach of children, at temperatures up to 25 ° C.
