Pirilax is a laxative and carminative.
pharmachologic effect
Bisacodyl is a part of Pirilax, which tends to irritate the mucous membranes of the large intestine, enhance its peristalsis.
The action of Pirilax develops within 6-8 hours after taking the medicine inside, and when using rectal suppositories - after 15 minutes.
Release form
Rectal suppositories and Pirilax tablets are produced.
Indications for the use of Pirilax
The medicine is effective for chronic constipation that occurs for various reasons, it is often used to cleanse the intestines before surgery or diagnostic procedures.
In addition, the drug can be taken in conditions requiring easier bowel movements - with cracks in the anus, proctitis, hemorrhoids, etc.
Method of using Pirilax
Pirilax is taken orally half an hour before the first meal. Children over 14 years old, adults are prescribed to take 5-15 mg of Pirilax; children 2-7 years. - 5 mg; 8-14 liters. - 5-10 mg.
Pirilax tablets are swallowed whole, chewed, or crushed is undesirable.
Suppositories are prescribed in the following dosages: children 2-7 liters. - 5 mg; children 8-14 years. - 10 mg; children over 14 y.o. - 10-20 mg.
To prepare for surgery or bowel examination, it is recommended to take 10-20 mg of the drug orally on the eve of the procedure, in the evening. In the morning, on the day of the examination or surgery, the drug is administered rectally - 10 mg.
Side effects of Pirilax
Bisacodyl, which is part of Pirilax, can cause abdominal pain, indigestion, and allergies.
With an overdose of bisacodyl, severe diarrhea can begin, which, in turn, can lead to dehydration, loss of electrolytes, which is manifested by the appearance of seizures, muscle weakness. Treatment when the recommended doses of the drug are exceeded and the appearance of similar or other side effects is symptomatic. Seeing a doctor in case of an overdose is mandatory.
Contraindications
According to the instructions, Pirilax should not be prescribed to patients with a strangulated hernia, spastic constipation, intestinal obstruction, exacerbated hemorrhoids, acute inflammation of the abdominal organs, as well as cystitis, bleeding from the uterus and in the gastrointestinal tract.
Pirilax is contraindicated in children under one year old.
The medication is prescribed with caution during breastfeeding, pregnant women and patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency.
It is undesirable to prescribe Pirilax simultaneously with diuretics, carbenoxolone, cholestyramine, corticosteroids, thiacide, opiates, psychotropic and anticholinergic drugs, cardiac glycosides, anti-acid agents, which contain aluminum.
