Release form and composition

Zalain is available in the following dosage forms:

• Vaginal suppositories: oval, white, waxy (1 pc. In blisters, 1 blister in a cardboard box);
• Cream for external use 2%: soft, white, with a slight odor of fat or odorless (20 g each in aluminum tubes, 1 tube each in a cardboard box).

The composition of 100 g of cream for external use includes:

Sertaconazole belongs to benzothiophene and imidazole derivatives and is characterized by a wide spectrum of action against pathogens of infectious diseases of the skin and mucous membranes (gram-positive strains of streptococci and staphylococci), dermatophytes (Microsporum and Trichophyton) and pathogenic fungi (Pityrosporum spp., Cand. Spp., Candida albicans). The drug exhibits fungicidal and fungistatic effects when used in recommended doses.

The mechanism of action of sertaconazole is to increase the permeability of the cell membrane, which causes lysis of the fungal cell, and suppression of the synthesis of ergosterol - the main sterol that is part of the membranes of yeast and fungi.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, sertaconazole is not detected in blood and urine. There is no absorption after intravaginal administration.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Zalain in the form of suppositories is prescribed for the local treatment of infections of the vaginal mucosa caused by fungi of the genus Candida (candidal vulvovaginitis).

Zalain cream is prescribed for candidiasis, pityriasis versicolor, superficial mycoses of the skin, including mycoses of the beard, trunk, legs, feet and hands.

Contraindications

Zalain is contraindicated for use in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, as well as to benzothiphene and imidazole derivatives.

The use of the drug by lactating and pregnant women is possible only in cases where the intended benefits to the health of the mother are higher than the possible risk to the child or fetus.

Breastfeeding women should not apply the cream to their breasts.

Instructions for the use of Zalain: method and dosage

The drug in the form of suppositories is used once, before bedtime.

1 vaginal suppository should be inserted in the supine position deep into the vagina. If the clinical symptoms persist after 7 days, the drug can be reused. Before the introduction of the drug, you need to wash the external genitalia using soap (alkaline or neutral).

Zalain in the form of a cream is applied in a uniform thin layer on the affected skin 2 times a day, capturing about 1 cm of the healthy skin surface. The duration of therapy is determined by the etiology of the pathogen and the localization of the infection. As a rule, the symptoms of the disease disappear after 14-28 days. The recommended duration of the drug use is 1 month.

Side effects

During the use of Zalain suppositories, in rare cases, it is possible to develop a burning sensation, itching in the vagina, which usually go away on their own without additional therapy and do not require discontinuation of the drug. These side effects are classic for topical preparations and reflect the effectiveness of their use. Also, during therapy, allergic reactions may develop.
