Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Valocordin is a combined drug, the therapeutic effect of which is due to the pharmacological properties of its constituent components.
Ethyl bromisovalerianate has sedative, antispasmodic and hypnotic effects.
Phenobarbital has a sedative and mild hypnotic effect, reducing central nervous system arousal and facilitating the onset of natural sleep.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Valocordin is prescribed for the following diseases / conditions:
- Functional disorders of the cardiovascular system, including cardialgia and sinus tachycardia;

- Neuroses accompanied by anxiety, irritability and fear;
- A state of arousal with pronounced autonomic reactions.

- Hypersensitivity to drug components.
With caution, drops are used for traumatic brain injuries, liver diseases, alcoholism, brain diseases (due to ethanol, which is part of the drug).
Instructions for the use of Valocordin: method and dosage
Valocordin drops are taken orally with a small amount of liquid before meals.
The doctor sets the dosage and duration of use individually.
Usually, adults are prescribed 15-20 drops 3 times a day. If falling asleep is disturbed, the dose may be increased to 30 drops.
Children, taking into account the clinical picture of the disease, are prescribed on average 1 drop per year of life.
Side effects
Valocordin, even with prolonged use, is generally well tolerated. Sometimes during the daytime, you may experience slight dizziness and drowsiness.
Long-term use of large doses can lead to the development of chronic bromine poisoning, manifested as:
- Rhinitis;
- Impaired coordination of movements;
- Depressed mood;
- Conjunctivitis;
- Apathy;
- Hemorrhagic diathesis.
In some cases, with increased sensitivity, skin reactions may develop.
If you experience any uncharacteristic effects that are not listed in the instructions, you should consult your doctor.
In case of overdose, there may be:
- Mild and moderate intoxication - dizziness, drowsiness, psychomotor disorders;
- Severe cases - tachycardia, vascular collapse, coma, respiratory failure, decreased blood pressure, decreased peripheral reflexes.
For treatment, gastric lavage and the intake of activated carbon are indicated. If symptoms of an overdose appear, it is recommended to urgently consult a doctor.
Overdose
Symptoms of moderate and mild intoxication: dizziness, psychomotor disturbances, drowsiness.
In severe cases of overdose, blood pressure decreases, breathing is impaired, and peripheral reflexes decrease. Development of vascular collapse, tachycardia, coma is possible.
Treatment: gastric lavage, intake of activated carbon. You need to seek the help of a doctor.
special instructions
If it is necessary to prescribe Valocordin during lactation, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
Because of the hypnotic phenobarbital and ethanol, which contains 469 mg in 30 drops (the maximum single dose), the drug can impair the patient's ability to respond quickly in certain situations, for example, when servicing cars or while outdoors. This is especially pronounced when taken simultaneously with alcohol.
In the case of prolonged use of Valocordin, it is possible:
- Development of drug dependence;
- Accumulation of bromine in the body with subsequent poisoning.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
It is forbidden to use Valocordin drops during pregnancy and lactation.
Pediatric use
It is forbidden to use the drug to treat patients under the age of 18.
With impaired renal function
It is forbidden to use Valocordin in case of severe renal impairment.
For violations of liver function
It is forbidden to use Valocordin in case of severe liver dysfunction. For liver diseases, the drug should be taken with caution.
Drug interactions
With the simultaneous administration of sedatives, an increase in the effect is observed.
Combined use with tranquilizers and neuroleptics enhances, and with stimulants of the central nervous system - weakens the effect of each of the components of the drug.
Alcohol can increase the toxicity of Valocordin and enhance its effect.
The phenobarbital contained in the preparation is able to induce liver microsomal enzymes. As a consequence, its simultaneous use with drugs metabolized in the liver is undesirable, since their concentration, and accordingly the effectiveness, will decrease as a result of a more accelerated metabolism (antibiotics, indirect anticoagulants, sulfonamides).
Phenobarbital also weakens the effect of griseofulvin, glucocorticosteroids, coumarin derivatives and oral contraceptives.
Analogs
Valocordin's analogues are: Barboval, Darvipol, Valeckard, Corvalol, Corvaldin, Korvaltab, Corvalcaps.
Terms and conditions of storage
Store in a dark place, out of reach of children, at a temperature of 15-25 ° C.
The shelf life is 5 years.
Terms of dispensing from pharmacies
