Bronchostop is a mucolytic expectorant drug.
Release form and composition
The dosage form of Bronchostop is syrup: transparent, colorless or somewhat yellowish, has a vanillin smell (100 ml each in polymer or dark glass bottles, 1 bottle each complete with a measuring cup or polymer spoon in a cardboard box).
Composition of 5 ml syrup:
- active substance: bromhexine hydrochloride - 4 mg;
- auxiliary components: sorbitol (sorbitol) - 50 mg; citric acid monohydrate - 5 mg; vanillin - 2.5 mg; sodium saccharinate - 5 mg; propylene glycol - 1000 mg; sodium benzoate - 2.5 mg; purified water - up to 5 ml.
Indications for use
- lung diseases in acute / chronic course, accompanied by the formation of sputum of high viscosity - pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia, tracheobronchitis, cystic fibrosis, bronchial asthma, bronchitis of various etiologies (including complicated by bronchiectasis);
- sanitation of the bronchial tree before carrying out diagnostic / therapeutic intrabronchial manipulations and in the preoperative period;
- the accumulation of thick viscous sputum in the bronchi after operations (prevention).
Contraindications
Absolute:
- stomach ulcer;
- peptic ulcer of the stomach;
- hereditary fructose intolerance (sorbitol is part of the syrup);
- I trimester of pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Relative, the use of Bronchostop requires caution in the presence of the following diseases / conditions:
- diseases of the bronchi, proceeding with excessive accumulation of secretions;
- hepatic / renal failure;
- burdened history of gastric bleeding;
- II – III trimester of pregnancy (use is possible only as directed by a doctor).
Method of administration and dosage
Bronchostop is taken orally, regardless of food.
The recommended dosing regimen for children under 14 years of age (single dose with a frequency of taking 3 times a day):
- up to 2 years: 2 mg;
- 2-6 years: 2-4 mg;
- 6-14 years: 4-8 mg.
Children from 14 years old and adults are usually prescribed 3-4 times a day for 8-16 mg of syrup.
Side effects
In rare cases, during a long course, the following disorders may develop: dyspepsia (including nausea and vomiting), headache, dizziness, exacerbation of gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, increased activity of hepatic transaminases in blood serum, allergic reactions (in the form of skin rash), rhinitis, facial edema, etc.).
The occurrence of the described adverse reactions requires the abolition of Bronchostop.
special instructions
In debilitated patients, caution should be exercised when using Bronchostop.
During the period of therapy, to maintain the secretolytic effect of bromhexine and increase its expectorant effect, it is recommended to consume a sufficient amount of liquid.
In children, it is necessary to carry out therapy in combination with postural drainage or vibration massage of the chest, which will facilitate the evacuation of secretions from the bronchi.
Drug interactions
With the combined use of Bronchostop with certain drugs / substances, the following effects may develop:
- drugs that suppress the cough center (including codeine): difficulty in passing liquefied sputum and accumulation of bronchial secretions in the airways (the combination is not recommended);
- some nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including salicylates, phenylbutazone, butadione: irritation of the gastric mucosa;
- antibiotics (oxytetracycline, cephalexin, erythromycin, amoxicillin), sulfanilamide drugs: an increase in their penetration into the bronchial secretions during the first 4–5 days of antimicrobial therapy.
Bronchostop is incompatible with alkaline solutions.

Terms and conditions of storage
Store in a dark place at temperatures up to 25 ° C. Keep out of the reach of children.
The shelf life is 3 years.
