Solution for oral administration, local and external use Bacteriophage coli

Bacteriophage coli is a medical immunobiological preparation - bacteriophage (MIBP-bacteriophage).

Release form and composition

MIBP-bacteriophage is produced in the form of a solution for oral administration, local and external use, which is a transparent yellow liquid (in vials of 20 and 100 ml, in a cardboard box of 4 or 10 vials of 20 ml, or 1 vial of 100 ml and instructions for use of Bacteriophage coli).

Composition of the preparation:

  • active substance: bacteriophage coli (sterile filtrate of phagolysates of pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli);
  • auxiliary component (preservative): 8-hydroxyquinoline sulfate monohydrate.

Pharmacological properties

MIBP-bacteriophage specifically lyses Escherichia coli bacteria (enteropathogenic E. coli).

Indications for use

Coli bacteriophage is used in the complex therapy of the following diseases caused by E. coli bacteria:

  • intestinal dysbiosis and enteric infections (such as gastroenterocolitis and cholecystitis);
  • diseases of the ENT organs, respiratory tract and lungs: laryngitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, tracheitis, inflammation of the middle ear and sinuses, bronchitis, pleurisy, pneumonia;
  • generalized septic diseases;
  • urogenital infections: cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, endometritis, colpitis, salpingo-oophoritis;
  • surgical infections: carbuncles, boils, burns, panaritiums, suppuration of wounds, phlegmon, abscess, hydradenitis, bursitis, paraproctitis, osteomyelitis, mastitis;
  • purulent-inflammatory diseases of newborns: gastroenterocolitis, conjunctivitis, pyoderma, omphalitis, sepsis, etc.;
  • other diseases caused by enteropathogenic E. coli.

For prophylactic purposes, Bacteriophage coli is used to prevent complications in freshly infected and postoperative wounds, as well as the development of nosocomial infections (in the presence of epidemic indications).

Contraindications

The use of Bacteriophage coli is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to its components.

Bacteriophage coli, instructions for use: method and dosage

Bacteriophage coli can be taken orally, introduced rectally, used for irrigation, applications, introduction into drained cavities, as well as in wound cavities, sinuses, joints, vagina, uterus.

Before each use, the vial is shaken and inspected so that the solution is clear and free of sediment. In case of turbidity, use of the drug is prohibited.

Standard single doses depending on age (for oral administration / rectal administration as an enema):

  • 0-6 months: 5 ml / 5-10 ml;
  • 6-12 months: 10 ml / 10-20 ml;
  • 1-3 years: 15 ml / 20-30 ml;
  • 3–8 years: 15–20 ml / 30–40 ml;
  • from 8 years (including adults): 20-30 ml / 40-50 ml.

If the lesions in pyoinflammatory diseases are localized, treatment is carried out simultaneously both by taking the drug inside and locally. The course, depending on the clinical condition, is 7–20 days. If chemical antiseptics are used, the wound should be thoroughly rinsed with a sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution before the appointment of Bacteriophage.

For the prevention of enterocolitis and sepsis in case of intrauterine infection or the risk of its development in newborn children, the drug is administered in the form of enemas rectally twice a day for a course of 5-7 days.

For infected wounds, pyoderma and omphalitis, Bacteriophage coli is used daily in the form of applications: moisten a gauze napkin with a solution and apply it to the affected skin area or umbilical wound.

For enterocolitis and sepsis in newborns, including premature infants, Bacteriophage coli is used 5-10 ml 2-3 times a day in the form of high enemas (performed through a catheter or gas tube). If there is no vomiting or regurgitation, the drug can be given to the child by mouth after mixing with breast milk or formula. If necessary, combine oral and rectal administration of the solution.

The duration of treatment depends on the clinical situation and ranges from 5 to 15 days. In the case of a recurrent nature of the disease, the doctor prescribes repeated courses.

Ways of using Bacteriophage coli, depending on the focus of infection:

  • inside (for cystitis, urethritis and pyelonephritis): if the cavity of the renal pelvis / bladder is drained, the solution is injected through the nephrostomy / cystostomy 1-2 times a day, into the renal pelvis - 5-7 ml, into the bladder - 20-50 ml;
  • inside (with intestinal dysbiosis and enteral infections): 3 times a day, about 1 hour before meals for 7–20 days. If necessary, you can combine a two-time oral administration with a single rectal administration of the drug (in the form of an enema after bowel movement) in appropriate age doses;
  • externally (irrigation, lotions, tamponing): the solution is used in quantities up to 200 ml (the exact dose is due to the size of the affected area). In case of abscess, in the case of removal of pus by puncture, the volume of the injected drug should be less than the volume of the removed purulent contents. In osteomyelitis, a bacteriophage is used after appropriate surgical treatment, pouring 10–20 ml into the wound;
  • topically (rinsing, instillation, washing, introduction of turunda): for purulent-inflammatory ENT diseases, 2-10 ml from 1 to 3 times a day. The introduced turundas soaked in the preparation should be left for 1 hour;
  • locally in limited cavities (including articular and pleural): in volumes up to 100 ml. In these cases, a capillary drainage is left and the drug is injected through it for several days;
  • intravaginally (into the cavity of the vagina and uterus in case of gynecological purulent-inflammatory diseases): 5-10 ml 1 time per day;
  • intravaginally (irrigation or tamponing for colpitis): 10 ml 2 times a day, tampons are left for 2 hours.

special instructions

To achieve maximum effectiveness from therapy, it is first necessary to determine the phagosensitivity of the pathogen.

The product contains a nutrient medium that is favorable for the development of bacteria that have entered from the outside, which can cause a cloudy solution. Therefore, when opening the bottle, it is important to follow the rules of asepsis:

  • wash your hands thoroughly;
  • process the cap with an alcohol-containing solution;
  • remove the cap without opening the plugs;
  • remove the solution from the vial using a sterile syringe by piercing the stopper;
  • in case of removing the plug, do not place its inner surface on a table or other objects;

Reviews about Bacteriophage coli

Reviews of the Bacteriophage coli are mostly positive. The drug is often used in therapeutic practice, especially for dysbacteriosis in newborns. The important advantages of the remedy include the absence of contraindications and side effects.

In rare cases, there are reports of no effect after a course of therapy. However, according to doctors, treatment is ineffective either in the case of neglect of the study of the pathogen to determine its phagosensitivity, or in violation of the bacteriophage dosing regimen.

Price for Bacteriophage coli in pharmacies

The approximate price for Bacteriophage coli for 1 bottle of 20 ml is 174-187 rubles. A package containing 4 bottles of 20 ml each costs about 698–748 rubles.
