Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal synthetic drug that has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects.
pharmachologic effect
The active ingredient of the drug is ibuprofen, a phenylpropionic acid derivative.
Ibuprofen is most effective for inflammatory pain. The antipyretic effect is quite close to acetylsalicylic acid. Suppresses platelet adhesion, improves microcirculation and reduces the intensity of inflammation.
When applied externally, Ibuprofen in the form of an ointment has a strong analgesic effect, reducing hyperemia, morning stiffness and edema.
The drug is included in the list of essential medicines of the World Health Organization, its effectiveness and safety has been studied and clinically tested.
Release form
Ibuprofen is available as a tablet, suspension and ointment.
- Ibuprofen tablets are round, smooth, biconvex white. Each tablet contains 200 mg or 400 mg of active ingredient. Excipients - magnesium stearate, talc, lactose, potato starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, Povidone 25. 10, 20 and 100 pieces per package;
- Ibuprofen sustained-release coated tablets. Each tablet contains 800 mg of active ingredient. 7, 14 and 60 pieces per pack;
- Lozenges. Each tablet contains 200 mg of active ingredient;
- Sustained-release capsules. Each capsule contains 300 mg of active ingredient;
- Suspension Ibuprofen for oral administration is homogeneous, yellow, with the smell of orange. 5 ml of suspension contains 100 mg of active ingredient. Produced in bottles of 100 ml, in a cardboard box with a measuring spoon;
- 5% cream and gel for external use.
Indications for the use of Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen is indicated for:
- Symptomatic treatment of influenza and ARVI;
- Osteoarthritis;
- Psoriatic arthritis;
- Cervical spondylosis;
- Barre-Lieu syndrome;
- Cervical migraine;
- Bursitis;
- Ankylosing spondylitis;
- Neuralgic amyotrophy;

Contraindications
According to the instructions, ibuprofen is contraindicated in:
- Hypersensitivity to the drug;
- Exacerbation of gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer and ulcerative colitis;
- Diseases of the optic nerve and color vision disorders;
- "Aspirin" asthma;
- Arterial hypertension;
- Scotome;
- Amblyopia;
- Severe renal or liver dysfunction, as well as liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension;
- Heart failure;
- Swelling;
- Hemophilia;
- Hypocoagulation;
- Leukopenia;
- Pathology of the vestibular apparatus;
- Deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase;

According to the instructions, Ibuprofen is prescribed with caution when:

Instructions for use of Ibuprofen
According to the instructions, Ibuprofen is taken orally after meals.
The daily dose of the drug depends on the disease:
- For osteoarthritis, algodismenorrhea, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondyloarthritis, adults are prescribed 400-600 mg 3-4 times a day;
- For rheumatoid arthritis, an increased dose is taken, 800 mg 3 times a day;
- For soft tissue injuries and sprains, Ibuprofen tablets of prolonged action are used - 1600-2400 mg once a day, preferably before bedtime;
- With moderate pain syndrome, take 1200 mg per day;
- With a febrile syndrome that arose after immunization, 50 mg is used, if necessary, the administration can be repeated after 6 hours, but not more than 100 mg per day.
In case of febrile conditions in children over 12 years of age, the dose of Ibuprofen is calculated to lower body temperature:
- Above 39.2 degrees C - 10 mg per 1 kg of body weight per day;
- Below 39.2 degrees C - 5 mg per 1 kg of body weight per day.
Ibuprofen Lozenges are used to treat ENT diseases by dissolving in the mouth under the tongue. Children over 12 years old and adults are prescribed 200-400 mg 2-3 times a day.
Oral suspension is usually prescribed for children. The average single dose when taken 3 times a day is:
- 1 to 3 years - 100 mg;
- From 4 to 6 years old - 150 mg;
- 7-9 years old - 200 mg;
- 10 to 12 years old - 300 mg
Externally apply a gel or cream Ibuprofen, applying and rubbing it until completely absorbed on the affected area 3-4 times a day. The treatment can be carried out within 2-3 weeks.
Side effects
According to the instructions, Ibuprofen is a fairly safe drug and is usually well tolerated. Some side effects may occur when applied:
Digestive system: diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, anorexia, epigastric discomfort, erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract occur more often; much less often liver dysfunction or bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract.
Nervous system: Headache or dizziness, sleep disturbances or agitation, and visual disturbances may occur.
Circulatory system: side effects are observed only with prolonged use of the drug - thrombocytopenia, anemia, agranulocytosis.
Urinary system: impaired renal function may occur with prolonged use of Ibuprofen.
Allergic reactions can be observed both when taking the drug inside, and when applied externally in the form of skin redness, skin rash, Quincke's edema, burning sensation. Bronchospastic syndrome and aseptic meningitis occur much less frequently.
Ibuprofen is contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy. Application in the I and II trimesters is possible strictly according to the doctor's indications.
During lactation, Ibuprofen can be used in low doses for pain and fever. Since the drug is excreted in breast milk, use in doses over 800 mg per day is contraindicated.
