Copper sulfate is an antiseptic and astringent used for the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.
pharmachologic effect
Copper sulfate - blue crystals or crystalline powder, which dissolves well in water and forms a blue pentahydrate - Copper sulfate (Cuprum sulfuricum or Sulfuric acid).
Copper sulfate has a cauterizing, antiseptic, astringent, emetic, necrotizing and erythropoietic local effect. In small doses, it acts as a catalyst that accelerates the formation of hemoglobin, therefore it is used to treat anemia at the same time as taking iron supplements.
Also copper sulfate is one of the components of electrolytic copper plating baths.
Release form
Copper sulfate is produced in the form:
- Homeopathic granules 5 g, 10 g, 20 g;
- Crystalline powder 100 g each.
Since copper sulfate belongs to trace elements involved in metabolic processes, it is used in various medicinal complexes. You can buy copper sulfate as part of the multivitamin preparations "Oligovit", "Kvadevit", "Complivit", "Glutamevit" and some others.
Copper sulfate is used in agriculture as a remedy for weeds and decay, so you can buy copper sulfate in chemical or hardware stores, 100 g, 500 g or 1 kg each. Also, the drug is used in veterinary medicine to treat fungal diseases and diseases that are caused by single-celled parasites living on the body of fish. You can buy copper sulfate in pet stores, in plastic bottles of 50 ml.
Indications for use of the solution
Copper sulfate solution is used for:
- Stomatitis;
- Vaginitis;
- Vitiligo, as part of a combination therapy;
- Anemia;
- Furunculosis;
- Conjunctivitis;
- Poisoning with organophosphorus compounds;
- Eczema;
- Burns;
- Urethritis;
- Angina;
- Pyoderma;
- Purulent wounds and wound infections.
Contraindications
Copper sulfate solution is contraindicated in case of individual intolerance.
Instructions for use
For the treatment of many diseases, copper sulfate is used in the form of a solution:
- 0.25% solution - for conjunctivitis, in the form of eye drops, 2-3 drops in each eye;
- 0.25-1.0% solution - with urethritis and vaginitis;
- 5% solution - for burns with phosphorus. Tampons soaked in a solution of copper sulfate are applied to the affected skin. The treatment is continued until the glow disappears;
- 0.1% solution - in case of phosphorus poisoning, used for gastric lavage;
- 0.5-1% solution - in the treatment of vitiligo, 3 times a day, 5-15 drops with meals, in combination with corticosteroids and photoprotective drugs;
- 1% solution - as an emetic. Apply 15 ml (maximum 50 mg) of copper sulfate solution inside every 10 minutes, until vomiting occurs.
For the treatment of anemia, copper sulfate is used either in the form of homeopathic granules, or as part of complex multivitamin preparations.
Side effects
Copper sulfate solution can cause a variety of allergic reactions, including itching and rashes.
Storage conditions
Copper sulfate is classified as List B drugs and must be stored in a well-closed container.
