Gel for external use 5% Ibuprofen-VERTEX

Ibuprofen-VERTEX is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for external use.

Release form and composition

The drug is produced in the form of a gel for external use 5%: transparent, colorless or with a pale yellow tint, with a specific odor, the presence of air bubbles and opalescence is allowed (20, 30, 50 or 100 g in an aluminum tube, in a cardboard box 1 tube and instructions for use of Ibuprofen-VERTEX).

1 g of gel contains:

  • active substance: ibuprofen - 50 mg;
  • additional components: methyl parahydroxybenzoate (methylparaben), trolamine (triethanolamine), ethyl alcohol 95% (ethanol 95%), dimethyl sulfoxide, propylene glycol, lavender oil, carbomer, orange blossom oil (neroli oil), purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Ibuprofen belongs to the group of NSAIDs, derivatives of propionic acid. The active substance has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. As a result of indiscriminate suppression of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), the drug inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation, pain and hyperthermic reaction.

The product is easy to apply and is actively absorbed by the skin due to the rapid evaporation of the ethyl alcohol included in the composition; when treating the skin, it demonstrates an additional cooling effect.

Pharmacokinetics

After 24 hours after external use of the gel, ibuprofen is detected in the epidermis and dermis. In blood plasma, the maximum concentration of the active substance when applied topically is 5% of that when using oral forms of ibuprofen. Clinically significant systemic absorption of the drug practically does not occur.

The metabolic process of the drug takes place in the liver. Ibuprofen is excreted mostly by the kidneys (with no more than 1% - unchanged) and to a small extent - with bile.
