Granulocyte
Granulocyte [granulocytus - LNH (Leningrad histological nomenclature); lat. granulum, a diminutive of granum - grain + Greek. leucocytus - white blood cells; synonym: granular leukocyte] - a leukocyte in which, when stained, granularity is found in the cytoplasm.
Types of granulocytes:
- acidophilic [acidophilus - LNH (Leningrad histological nomenclature); synonyms: eosinophilic leukocyte, acidophilic, eosinophilic, acidophilic leukocyte] - granulocyte in which granularity is found against the background of staining with acid dyes;
- basophilic [basophilus - LNH (Leningrad histological nomenclature); synonyms: basophilic, basophilic, basophilic leukocyte] - granulocyte in which granularity is detected against the background of staining with basic dyes;
- neutrophilic [neutrophilus - LNH (Leningrad histological nomenclature); synonyms: neutrophilocyte, neutrophil, neutrophilic leukocyte] - granulocyte in which granularity is found against the background of staining with neutral dyes;
- neutrophilic stab (neutrophilus bacillonuclearis; synonym: stab leukocyte) - neutrophilic granulocyte, in which the nucleus is elongated in the form of a horseshoe, the letter S or a bean;
- neutrophilic segmented (neutrophilus segmentonuclearis; synonym: segmented leukocyte) - neutrophilic granulocyte, in which the nucleus is divided into several segments (lobules), connected by thin bridges.
