Balsam Muscovy is a combined herbal medicinal product with moderately soothing and choleretic action.
Release form and composition
Muscovy balm is produced in the form of an elixir, which is a liquid, sweet in taste, brown with a reddish tint, with a weakly aromatic odor; during storage, a natural sediment may fall out (100 ml in jars or vials of light-shielding glass, sealed with aluminum caps or screw caps; 250 ml each in vials of light-shielding glass or bottles of orange or brown glass, sealed with aluminum caps or screw caps; one in a cardboard box, vial or bottle).
Composition for 1000 ml of elixir:
- active ingredients: oregano herb - 47.8 g; motherwort herb - 37.4 g; yarrow herb - 20.4 g;
- auxiliary components: 95% ethyl alcohol, sodium cyclamate, color, purified water.
Indications for use
- sleep disorders and increased nervous irritability (as a sedative);
- vegetative vascular dystonia;
- dyskinesia of the biliary tract (as a choleretic agent).
Contraindications
- liver disease;
- calculous cholecystitis;
- diseases of the brain;
- traumatic brain injury;
- fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, isomaltase / sucrase deficiency;
- alcoholism;
- children and adolescents up to 18 years old;
- period of pregnancy and lactation;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
In patients with diabetes, Muscovy Balm is used with caution.
Method of administration and dosage
The drug is taken orally. The prescribed dose is preliminarily diluted in 100 ml (1/2 glass) of water.
The elixir is recommended to be taken 2 times a day, 10–20 ml (2–4 teaspoons).
The duration of the course is from 7 to 10 days. The repeated course is carried out only after consultation with the attending physician.
Side effects
Muscovy balm can cause allergic reactions, especially in patients with increased individual sensitivity.

The elixir contains about 60% ethanol. In the maximum single dose (20 ml), the amount of ethyl alcohol in absolute terms is 9.765 g, in the maximum daily (40 ml) dose - 19.53 g.
When using Balm Muscovy in large doses exceeding the recommended ones, it is possible to slow down the speed of psychomotor reactions.
During treatment, it is necessary to refrain from engaging in potentially hazardous activities that require increased attention and reaction speed (work of the operator and dispatcher, driving, working with mechanisms).
Drug interactions
When used simultaneously with hypnotics and other drugs that depress the central nervous system, the hypnotic and depressing effect of these drugs is enhanced.
Muscovy balm is not recommended to be used in conjunction with medicines, when using which ethanol is prohibited.
Terms and conditions of storage
Store in a dark place at a temperature of 0 … +25 ° C. Keep out of the reach of children.
The shelf life is 5 years.
