Histoplasmosis
Histoplasmosis (histoplasmosis; synonyms: cytomycosis reticuloendothelial, Darling's cytomycosis, Darling's disease) is an infectious disease included in the group of systemic mycoses, excited by Histoplasma capsulatum; characterized by hyperplasia of the elements of the reticuloendothelial system, mainly in the lungs, as well as in the spleen and liver without signs of purulent inflammation, with the occurrence of mucocutaneous-ulcerative, hepato-splenic-lymphatic and cardiopulmonary syndromes.
Allocate histoplasmosis:
- African (africana) - a variant of histoplasmosis, excited by Histoplasma duboisii, found in Africa and characterized by a predominant lesion of the mucous membranes and skin with rare lung damage (observed only with generalization of the process);
- cutaneous (cutanea) is a name that unites secondary manifestations of histoplasmosis in the form of verrucous growths, abscessing subcutaneous infiltrates, and granulomatous skin lesions.
