Exfoliating mask
Exfoliating mask (scrub) is a cosmetic product consisting of the smallest abrasive particles, with the help of which impurities and dead cells of the epidermis are removed from the skin surface. The procedure for using an exfoliating mask at a beauty salon or at home is called cosmetic peeling.
Skin is the largest organ in the human body, covering an area of about 1-2 meters. It consists of the epidermal layer, which carries out a protective function, the dermal layer, which ensures the firmness and elasticity of the skin, as well as subcutaneous fat, which contains a supply of nutrients.
The peculiarity of our skin is continuous renewal. The life cycle of a cell originates in the deep layers of the epidermis and ends when it reaches the upper stratum corneum. Along the way, it "passes" through the granular and prickly layers of the skin: this process is called cell metabolism.
As the cell moves to the surface of the skin, moisture is lost, the cell is filled with a horny substance (keratin) and becomes flat.
Normally, with a healthy lifestyle, the epidermis should be renewed at least once every 28 days. However, there are many reasons that prevent the skin from renewing itself. Among them:
- Age. If at the age of 18 the skin cells are renewed every 28 days, then every year the division period increases by 1 day. Thus, old skin cells predominate over young ones, the stratum corneum thickens, layers (wrinkles) are formed;
- Sun rays. Under the influence of ultraviolet light, during the natural reaction of the skin, a protective barrier is formed, and the thickness of the stratum corneum also increases;
- Other unfavorable factors (poor environment, poor-quality and unbalanced diet, insufficient fluid intake, etc.)
Exfoliating mask properties
An exfoliating mask serves as an artificial means to increase the frequency of skin renewal. Under the influence of hard microparticles (crushed apricot kernels, walnut or pine nut shells, sea salt, particles of minerals, plastic balls), the epidermis is cleansed of dead cells, freeing fresh and young skin access to oxygen.
Thus, skin tone, softness and elasticity are restored, and signs of epidermal aging (enlargement of pores, formation of wrinkles, decreased elasticity, appearance of age spots) lose their severity.
Main properties of an exfoliating mask:
- Cleansing the skin from horny particles, freeing pores from sweat and sebum;
- Improving oxygen metabolism and blood circulation in the skin;
- Elimination of minor imperfections and skin irregularities;
- Getting rid of pigmentation;
- Pronounced anti-cellulite effect;
- Improvement and rejuvenation of the skin.
Exfoliating face mask
An exfoliating face mask is used as a weekly skin care product. It allows you to purify the skin, make it younger, softer and more beautiful.
Exfoliating agent application technology: apply a small amount of scrub to hands. Using the index and middle fingers in circular movements for 2-3 minutes, massage the face, moving along the massage lines (from the middle of the forehead to the temples, from the corners of the lips to the temples, from the middle of the chin to the earlobes), ignoring the area around the eyes. Wash off the remains of the scrub with warm water.
The frequency of using a face scrub is no more than 1-2 times a week.
An exfoliating face mask is used not only as an effective preventive measure against premature skin aging. You should know that:
- Moisturizing and nourishing creams applied after using the face scrub are better absorbed into the skin, and their effect will be more pronounced;
- Using a scrub before the depilation procedure will prevent the process of ingrown hairs after shaving;
- Applying an exfoliating mask before self-tanning will help the bronze layer to lie flat and last longer.
The peculiarity of the exfoliating face mask is that its consistency should be more delicate than that of a scrub for feet, hands or body.
For dry and sensitive skin, masks based on a cream are suitable, for oily skin, it is better to choose a cosmetic product based on a clay: it will help to narrow pores and eliminate excess sebum. Gel-based exfoliating masks are a versatile treatment for all skin types.
The abrasive particles that form the base of the scrub also guide the use of the exfoliating mask.
For example, scrubs with plastic balls massage the skin well without injuring it and are ideal for cleansing dry and sensitive skin.
Scrubs with apricot pits or nut shells have sharp edges and can injure delicate skin - therefore their use is recommended for owners of oily skin types.
An exfoliating mask with sea salt or particles of ground natural coffee polishes well, eliminating the smallest damage, tones and rejuvenates the skin.
Exfoliating foot mask
The foot scrub helps to cleanse the rough skin of the feet from dead cells, makes it smoother and more delicate, and fights against itchy and unpleasant microorganisms. The abrasive components included in the exfoliating foot mask increase blood circulation, stimulating the body's metabolic processes.
Exfoliating foot masks are available in a cream or gel base and contain an increased amount of abrasive particles for a deeper and more effective exfoliation.
A foot scrub is an excellent anti-stress remedy for relaxation and tension. Before applying the cosmetic product to the skin, the legs must be well steamed in a bath of hot water (with the addition of herbal infusions, essential oils or ordinary liquid soap). After the "water treatment", it is necessary to apply an exfoliating mask to the feet and gently massage the skin for 3-5 minutes. Next, the feet are washed, wiped off with a towel and lubricated with moisturizer.
To maintain a stable effect, it is recommended to do foot peeling at least 1-2 times a week.
