Release form and composition
The dosage form is a solution for intravenous administration: transparent, yellow (in dark glass ampoules of 5 ml, 5 ampoules are placed in plastic trays, 1 tray in a cardboard box).
Composition of 5 ml solution:
- active substance: essential phospholipids of soybeans - 357.2 mg [content of (3-sn-phosphatidyl) choline - 70%, in terms of (3-sn-phosphatidyl) choline - 250 mg];
- auxiliary components: butylhydroxyanisole, benzyl alcohol, sodium deoxycholate, propylene glycol, riboflavin, vitamin E, butylhydroxytoluene, water for injection.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Essliver is one of the hepatoprotective agents. Phospholipids that make up the drug are important elements in the structure of the cell wall and mitochondria.
The main effects of the drug:
- improvement of the functional state of the liver and its detoxification function;
- regulation of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism;
- inhibition of the formation of connective tissue in the liver;
- preservation and restoration of the structure of hepatocytes.
Indications for use
Essliver is prescribed concurrently with other drugs to treat the following diseases / conditions:
- acute / chronic hepatitis;
- hepatic coma;
- fatty degeneration of the liver of various etiologies (diabetes mellitus, chronic infections);
- alcoholic and toxic hepatitis, including drug;
- psoriasis;
- cirrhosis of the liver;
- gestosis;
- impaired hepatic function against the background of other somatic diseases;
- radiation sickness.
Contraindications
- age up to 18 years;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
During pregnancy / lactation, the drug should be prescribed with caution and in a short course.
Essliver instructions for use: method and dosage
The drug is administered by intravenous drip (preferably) at a rate of 40 to 50 drops / min after dilution in a 5% dextrose solution of 250–300 ml, or by jet - after dilution with the patient's blood (ratio 1: 1).
Standard dosage regimen: 2-3 times a day, 500-1000 mg.
At the beginning of therapy, it is recommended to combine the administration of Essliver with oral administration of the drug in the form of capsules (Essliver Forte). After improving the patient's condition, they are completely transferred to the drug intake.
The duration of therapy is 3 months. If necessary, the application can be continued / repeated.
Therapy for psoriasis begins with the intake of Essliver Forte capsules (3 times a day, 600 mg) for 14 days, then 10 intravenous infusions of Essliver's solution are given daily, 250 mg each, with the simultaneous initiation of PUVA therapy. After the end of the infusion, oral administration of capsules with a duration of 2 months is resumed. In patients with contraindications to PUVA therapy, it is possible to limit the use of the drug according to the indicated scheme, including in combination with conventional methods of treating psoriasis.
It is impossible to dilute Essliver with electrolyte solutions (0.9% sodium chloride solution, Ringer's solution).
Side effects
Possible side reactions, probably associated with the presence of benzyl alcohol in the drug: gastralgia, nausea, allergic reactions (manifested as skin rash, itching, urticaria).
Overdose
Overdose cases have not been reported.

Application during pregnancy and lactation
According to the instructions, Essliver is prescribed with caution during pregnancy / breastfeeding, which is associated with benzyl alcohol, which is included in its composition as an additional component. It can be used only for a short time with the subsequent transition to taking the drug orally in the form of capsules.
Pediatric use
For patients under 18 years of age, the drug is not prescribed.
