Prostaplant is a herbal preparation that has a selective anti-inflammatory, anti-edema and anti-androgenic effect on prostate tissue. It is used for functional disorders of urination due to prostatic hyperplasia.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - capsules: gelatinous, oval, green, with a seam; contents - oily mass from light brown to dark brown color, with a characteristic odor (10 or 20 pcs. in blisters, in a cardboard pack 3 or 6 blisters).
Active ingredient: dry extract of creeping saw palmetto (10-14.3: 1) - 320 mg in 1 capsule.
Auxiliary components: ethanol 90% (extractant), glycerol, gelatin polysuccinate, dyes of iron oxide black (E172), iron oxide yellow (E172) and patented blue V (E131).
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Prostaplant is characterized by antiandrogenic, anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory action, selectively directed to the prostate gland.
The antiandrogenic activity of the drug is due to the inhibition of the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. Under its influence, testosterone entering the prostate gland is converted into an active form - dihydrotestosterone. Prostaplant prevents the formation of the dihydrotestosterone receptor complex, its penetration into the cell nucleus and the subsequent stimulation of protein synthesis. As a result, the proliferation process in the tissues of the prostate gland is inhibited. The drug does not change the concentration of testosterone, luteinizing and follicle-stimulating hormones in the blood plasma of men.
The decongestant and anti-inflammatory effect of Prostaplant is due to inhibition of the enzyme cyclooxygenase and 5-lipoxygenase.
The drug reduces vascular stasis and capillary permeability, eliminates edema and inflammation in the prostate, as well as compression on the urethra and bladder neck, improving the urodynamics of the urinary tract.
The above properties of Prostaplant reduce the manifestations of specific symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia, represented by dysuria, nocturia, pollakiuria, painful sensations and a feeling of tension in the perineum at stages I – II of the disease, incomplete emptying of the bladder, and a decrease in the volume and force of urination. The drug does not reduce potency in men and does not change the concentration of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in blood plasma.
Indications for use
Prostaplant is a drug used to eliminate urinary disorders that have developed as a result of benign prostatic hyperplasia of the I and II stages.
Contraindications
The tool is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
It should be used with caution in the presence of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including a history.
Instructions for use of Prostaplant: method and dosage
Prostaplant should be taken orally: swallow the capsules whole and drink it with a little liquid.
The drug is prescribed 1 capsule 1 time per day. The doctor determines the duration of treatment and the need for repeated courses individually, depending on the clinical situation. The recommended duration of therapy is at least 3 months.
Side effects
- From the gastrointestinal tract: rarely - heartburn, nausea, gastralgia (especially in the case of taking the drug on an empty stomach);
