Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Ulcavis is an anti-ulcer drug with bactericidal activity against the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, astringent and anti-inflammatory effect.

The mechanism of action of the drug is due to the ability of bismuth oxychloride and citrate to precipitate insoluble in the acidic environment of the stomach and form chelate compounds with a protein substrate in the form of a protective film on the surface of erosions and ulcers. Ulcavis increases the synthesis of prostaglandin E, the secretion of bicarbonate and the formation of mucus, stimulates the activity of cytoprotective mechanisms, reduces the activity of pepsin, increases the resistance of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) to the effects of enzymes, hydrochloric acid, bile salts and pepsin. It leads to the accumulation of epidermal growth factor in the defect zone.

Pharmacokinetics

The active substance of the drug is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is excreted mainly in the feces through the intestines. A small amount of bismuth that has entered the blood plasma is excreted by the kidneys.

Indications for use

  • functional dyspepsia (only if it is not associated with organic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract);
  • chronic gastritis and gastroduodenitis in the acute phase, including those associated with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori;
  • peptic ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer in the acute phase, including those associated with Helicobacter pylori;
  • irritable bowel syndrome, accompanied mainly by diarrhea.

Contraindications

  • children under 4 years of age;
  • pregnancy;
  • lactation;
  • increased individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Instructions for the use of Ulkavis: method and dosage

If renal dysfunction is diagnosed, which is accompanied by a high concentration of bismuth in the blood plasma, it is possible to use chelating agents (penicillamine or sodium dimercaptopropanesulfonate). If renal impairment is severe, hemodialysis is performed.

special instructions

The duration of treatment should not exceed 8 weeks. Do not increase the daily dose recommended by your doctor.

After the end of the course of therapy, in the case of using Ulkavis in recommended doses, the concentration of bismuth in the blood plasma does not exceed 58 μg / l.
