Carboplatin is an antineoplastic drug used in mono- and combined therapy in the treatment of cancer.
Release form
Carboplatin is produced in the form of a sterile lyophilized powder for injection in vials of 50 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg and 450 mg (Carboplatin 450) and in the form of a solution for injection in ampoules of 5, 15 and 45 ml. An analogue of this drug is Carboplatin Teva.

The active substance Carboplatin has an antitumor effect by acting on DNA through a heavy metal - platinum, leading to the death of cancer cells.
Indications for the use of Carboplatin
Carboplatin is used for various oncological diseases:
- Lung cancer;
- Seminoma;
- Bladder cancer;
- Tumors of the head and neck;
- Ovarian cancer;
- Osteosarcoma;
- Germ cell tumors of the testicle and ovaries;
- Malignant melanoma;
- Cancer of the cervix and body of the uterus.
Contraindications
Carboplatin Teva is contraindicated in severe renal impairment and hypersensitivity to drugs that contain platinum, as well as in the case when treatment was preceded by severe myelodepression or significant blood loss.
Carboplatin is used with caution in chickenpox, herpes zoster, or other acute infectious diseases.
Carboplatin Teva is used with extreme caution after a course of radiation therapy.
Carboplatin is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation. The drug has an embryotoxic effect, so women of childbearing age need to use reliable contraceptive measures.
Instructions for the use of Carboplatin
The dose and regimen of treatment with Carboplatin is set individually, depending on:
- State of the hematopoietic system;
- Stages of the disease;
- Antineoplastic therapy regimens.
As monotherapy, Carboplatin 450 is most commonly used to treat ovarian cancer.
Carboplatin and Paclitaxel are used as part of complex chemotherapy. The largest number of studies on the combination of these drugs have been conducted for the treatment of lung cancer, since lung cancer has a very high mortality rate.
Combined therapy with Carboplatin and Paclitaxel is today the standard of palliative chemotherapy due to the convenience of outpatient use and an acceptable toxicity profile. The effectiveness of this method of treatment is 68-80%.
Carboplatin is used only under the supervision of an experienced chemotherapist, monitoring the peripheral blood picture, renal function and neurological status during treatment.
Side effects
Carboplatin 450 can cause various side effects:
- Leukopenia, anemia and thrombocytopenia;
- Vomiting, anorexia, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, and liver dysfunction;
- Peripheral polyneuropathy and decreased visual acuity and hearing;
- Urticaria, bronchospasm, skin rash, arterial hypotension;
- Amenorrhea and azoospermia;
- Alopecia, renal dysfunction, pain at the injection site, fever.
