Ceraxon is a synthetic nootropic medication used in the treatment of craniocerebral injuries and strokes.
Pharmacological action of Ceraxon
The active component of Ceraxon (citicoline) has a nootropic effect and, having a wide spectrum of action:

Contraindications
Ceraxon is contraindicated to use against the background of severe vagotonia, hypersensitivity to the components of the medication, as well as in pediatrics under 18 years of age.

Method of application of Ceraxon
Ceraxon in the form of a solution for oral administration can be taken regardless of food intake, after diluting it in a small amount of water (no more than half a glass).
The recommended dose for the acute period of ischemic stroke and traumatic brain injury is 1 g twice a day. The duration of therapy is at least six weeks.
In the recovery period of hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, craniocerebral trauma, as well as in cognitive and behavioral disorders arising from vascular and degenerative diseases of the brain, Ceraxon solution is taken 5-10 ml up to twice a day. The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.
Intravenous solution of Ceraxon is administered as a slow injection or drip in doses:
- In the acute period of traumatic brain injury and ischemic stroke - 1 g twice a day for 6 weeks. In cases where the swallowing function is not impaired, after 5 days from the start of therapy, the solution can be replaced with a solution for oral administration or Ceraxon tablets;
- During the recovery period of hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes and with cognitive and behavioral disorders caused by vascular and degenerative diseases of the brain, the recommended dose is 5-10 ml 1-2 times a day.
The daily dose of Ceraxon tablets, depending on the severity of the disease, is 500-2000 mg for 1.5-2 months.
In old age, when using Ceraxon in tablets or in the form of a solution, dose adjustment is not required.

Drug interactions
When using Ceraxon according to indications, it must be borne in mind that it increases the effects of levodopa.
According to the instructions, Ceraxon should not be prescribed together with medicines containing meclofenoxate.
