Fish oil is a complex of vitamins of animal origin that helps to regulate lipid metabolism.
Release form and composition
Dosage forms of release of Fish oil:
- capsules of 500 mg: transparent, elastic, soft gelatinous, oval, with a seam, light yellow; the contents of the capsules are an oily transparent liquid from yellow to light yellow in color, has a weak specific, non-rancid odor (10 pieces in blisters (polyvinyl chloride / aluminum), 5, 7 or 10 packages in a cardboard box);
- capsules of 250/300/500/800 mg each (biologically active food additive (BAA)) (in packs or bags of 100 pcs.).
Composition of 1 capsule:
- active substance: fortified fish oil - 500 mg (vitamin A - 500 IU (international units), vitamin D - 50 IU, docosahexaenoic acid - not less than 9%, eicosapentaenoic acid - not less than 8%, PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids) - not less than 20%);
- capsule shell: propyl parahydroxybenzoate - 0.07 mg, methyl parahydroxybenzoate - 0.28 mg, glycerol - 62.92 mg, gelatin - 136.13 mg, purified water - 17.6 mg.
Active substances in 1 capsule (dietary supplement) 300/500/800 mg:
- ocean fish oil (PUFA omega-3) - 90/150/240 mg;
- alpha-tocopherol acetate (vitamin E) - 1.5 / 2.5 / 4 mg.
Auxiliary components (dietary supplements): gelatin, glycerin.
Indications for use
- prevention of hypovitaminosis A and D (drug);
- an additional source of omega-3 PUFA (docosahexaenoic, eicosapentaenoic acids) and vitamin E (dietary supplements).
Contraindications
Drug
Absolute:
- cholelithiasis;
- prolonged immobilization (in large doses);
- urolithiasis disease;
- chronic pancreatitis;
- thyrotoxicosis;
- hypercalciuria;
- idiopathic hypercalcemia;
- liver / kidney disease (in acute and chronic course);
- hypervitaminosis A and D;
- pulmonary tuberculosis (in active form);
- inflammatory skin diseases in acute course;
- sarcoidosis and other granulomatosis;
- age up to 7 years;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Relative (Fish oil is prescribed with caution in the presence of the following diseases / conditions):
- hypothyroidism;
- alcoholism;
- organic heart damage;
- peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
- stage II-III heart failure;
- atherosclerosis;
- elderly age.
The food supplement is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Method of administration and dosage
The preparation
Fish oil is taken orally, washed down with lukewarm or cold water, preferably after a meal. It is recommended to swallow the capsules immediately, without keeping them in the mouth for a long time.
Single dose - 1-2 capsules, frequency of administration - 3 times a day.
The recommended duration of the course of taking the drug is 1 month.
Food
supplement Fish oil is taken orally, preferably at the same time as a meal.
Recommended dosage regimen:
- 3-7 years - 3 times a day, 1 capsule 300 mg;
- 7-14 years old - 3 times a day, 2 capsules 300 mg or 1 capsule 500 mg;
- adults and adolescents from 14 years old - 3 times a day for 3 capsules of 300 mg, or 2 times a day for 2 capsules of 500 mg, or 2 times a day for 1 capsule of 800 mg.
The recommended duration of the course of taking the supplement is 1 month. The doctor may prescribe a second course.
Side effects
When using Fish Oil in recommended doses, adverse reactions usually do not occur.
The development of allergic reactions and a decrease in blood clotting is possible.

Drug
To avoid overdose, combined use with drugs containing vitamins A and D is not recommended.
Long-term courses with high doses can lead to the development of chronic hypervitaminosis. In cases of using Fish Oil for the purpose of prevention, it should be borne in mind that an overdose may develop, especially in pediatric patients.
Vitamin D requirements may increase in old age.

Drug interactions
With the combined use of Fish Oil with certain drugs / substances, the following effects may develop:
- anticonvulsants, barbiturates: decreased activity of vitamin D;
- estrogens: increasing the likelihood of hypervitaminosis A;
- glucocorticoids: a decrease in their anti-inflammatory effect (due to vitamin A);
- calcium preparations, benzodiazepines: weakening their effects, increasing the likelihood of developing hypercalcemia;
- neomycin, cholestyramine, mineral oils, colestipol: reduced absorption of vitamin A;
- isotretinoin: an increase in the likelihood of developing a toxic effect;
- tetracycline (with high (from 50 thousand units) doses of vitamin A): an increase in the likelihood of developing intracranial hypertension;
- Vitamin E (in high doses): Decreased vitamin A stores
- cardiac glycosides: increasing their action and increasing the risk of arrhythmia;
- barbiturates (including phenobarbital), phenytoin, primidone: a significant increase in the need for vitamin D;
- aluminum and magnesium-containing antacids (long-term therapy): an increase in the concentration of vitamins A and D in the blood;
- phosphorus-containing drugs: an increase in their absorption and the likelihood of hyperphosphatemia;
- glucocorticosteroids, rifampicin, calcitonin, isoniazid, bisphosphonates, plicamycin: reduced effectiveness of fish oil.
With combined use, the interval between taking the drugs should be:
- sodium fluoride - at least 2 hours;
- oral forms of tetracyclines - at least 3 hours.
