Spray nasal Nesopin
Spray nasal Nesopin

Nesopin is a decongestant drug for topical use in otolaryngology.

Release form and composition

Nesopin's dosage form is a nasal spray: opalescent or transparent liquid, from colorless to light yellow (in a polymer bottle with a spray nozzle of 10 or 20 ml, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).

Composition of 1 ml spray:

  • active substance: oxymetazoline hydrochloride - 0.5 mg;
  • auxiliary components: racemic menthol (racementol), eucalyptus oil, disodium edetate dihydrate, sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, water for injection.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active component of Nesopin - oxymetazoline hydrochloride, being an alpha-adrenostimulating agent, promotes vasoconstriction of the mucous membranes of the nose, nasal paranasal sinuses and the Eustachian tube, which leads to a soft and long-lasting decrease in swelling and facilitates nasal breathing.

Nesopin's excipients - menthol and eucalyptus oil - have local decongestant, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects. They cause thinning of thick mucus and its outflow from the paranasal sinuses, and also increase the duration of the action of oxymetazoline.

The action of Nesopin appears 15 minutes after injection and lasts from 8 to 12 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, the systemic absorption of oxymetazoline hydrochloride is low.

Indications for use

  • rhinitis of infectious-inflammatory and allergic etiology;
  • sinusitis;
  • seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis;
  • eustachitis.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • atrophic rhinitis;
  • age up to 6 years;
  • pregnancy and lactation period;
  • hypersensitivity to oxymetazoline and / or auxiliary components of the drug.

Relative (the use of Nesopin spray requires caution):

  • chronic heart failure, arrhythmias;
  • severe atherosclerosis;
  • arterial hypertension;
  • diabetes;
  • chronic renal failure;
  • hyperthyroidism;
  • angle-closure glaucoma.

Instructions for use of Nesopin: method and dosage

Spray Nesopin is used intranasally.

Recommended dosage regimen:

  • adults and children over 12 years old: 2-3 injections into each nasal passage with an interval of 10-12 hours;
  • children from 6 to 12 years old: 1 injection in each nasal passage.

If after 3 days of using the drug in the recommended dose there is a need to continue treatment, you should consult a specialist.

Side effects

  • local reactions: dryness and burning of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity (which are transient), sneezing, dry mouth and throat; in case of prolonged use - tachyphylaxis, reactive hyperemia and atrophy of the nasal mucosa;
  • systemic reactions: feelings of restlessness and anxiety, nausea, dizziness, palpitations, headache, insomnia, sleep disturbances, increased blood pressure.

Overdose

With an overdose of Nesopin, symptoms such as tachycardia, depression of the function of the central nervous system, and increased blood pressure may occur.

In such cases, symptomatic therapy is recommended.

special instructions

Avoid getting the spray in the eyes.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Care must be taken when driving vehicles and complex mechanisms, since the drug can affect vision (if it gets into the eyes) and lead to a decrease in the reaction rate.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

According to the instructions, Nesopin is contraindicated for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Pediatric use

It is not recommended to prescribe the drug to children under 6 years of age.

With impaired renal function

The use of Nesopin in patients with chronic renal impairment requires caution.

Drug interactions

Oxymetazoline hydrochloride, when used simultaneously with local anesthetic drugs, can slow down their absorption and prolong their action.

The joint use of oxymetazoline with other vasoconstrictor drugs increases the risk of adverse reactions.

With the simultaneous appointment of oxymetazoline with monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants, an increase in blood pressure is possible.

Analogs

Nesopin's analogs are Afrin, Vicks Active Sinex, Nazivin, Nazivin Sensitiv, Nazol, Nazosprey, Noxprey, Oxymetazoline, Otrivin Oxy and others.
