Nesopin is a decongestant drug for topical use in otolaryngology.
Release form and composition
Nesopin's dosage form is a nasal spray: opalescent or transparent liquid, from colorless to light yellow (in a polymer bottle with a spray nozzle of 10 or 20 ml, 1 bottle in a cardboard box).
Composition of 1 ml spray:
- active substance: oxymetazoline hydrochloride - 0.5 mg;
- auxiliary components: racemic menthol (racementol), eucalyptus oil, disodium edetate dihydrate, sodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, water for injection.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
The active component of Nesopin - oxymetazoline hydrochloride, being an alpha-adrenostimulating agent, promotes vasoconstriction of the mucous membranes of the nose, nasal paranasal sinuses and the Eustachian tube, which leads to a soft and long-lasting decrease in swelling and facilitates nasal breathing.
Nesopin's excipients - menthol and eucalyptus oil - have local decongestant, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects. They cause thinning of thick mucus and its outflow from the paranasal sinuses, and also increase the duration of the action of oxymetazoline.
The action of Nesopin appears 15 minutes after injection and lasts from 8 to 12 hours.
Pharmacokinetics
When applied topically, the systemic absorption of oxymetazoline hydrochloride is low.
Indications for use

- sinusitis;
- seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis;
- eustachitis.
Contraindications

In such cases, symptomatic therapy is recommended.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Drug interactions
