Levorin is an antifungal antibiotic.
Release form and composition
Dosage forms:
- Tablets for oral administration (10 pcs. In blisters, in a cardboard pack 2 packs; 25 pcs. In polymer cans, in a cardboard box 1 can);
- Ointment for topical use (30 g in aluminum tubes, in a cardboard box 1 tube).
Each pack also contains instructions for the use of Levorin.
The active ingredient of the drug is levorin:
- 1 tablet - 500 thousand units (action units);
- 1 g of ointment - 500 thousand units.
Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Levorin is a polyene antifungal antibiotic. It has a high tropism for sterol formations of the fungal cell membrane, which is provided by a large number of conjugated double bonds. By binding to the cell membranes of fungi and inducing membrane permeability, it promotes cell destruction. The drug is most active in relation to Candida albicans and some protozoa (amoebas, leishmanias, trichomonads).
Pharmacokinetics
Levorin is practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract when taken orally, it is excreted completely with feces.
Indications for use
Levorin is used to treat diseases caused by the yeast-like fungus of the genus Candida:
- Inside: intestinal candidiasis, candidiasis of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT);
- Locally: lesions of the skin, candidiasis of the oral mucosa, female genital organs (urethritis, vulvovaginitis, cystitis), genital trichomoniasis.
Contraindications
Absolute contraindications for taking pills:
- renal / hepatic impairment;
- pancreatitis;
- gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer;
- acute non-fungal bowel disease;
- pregnancy;
- individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Relative contraindications (Levorin tablets are taken under medical supervision):
- age up to 2 years;
- lactation period.
The use of Levorin ointment is contraindicated in the presence of individual intolerance to its components. The ointment is prescribed with caution during pregnancy, lactation and children under 2 years of age.
Levorin, instructions for use: method and dosage
Levorin tablets should be taken orally, in case of nausea and / or vomiting - after eating.
Adults with gastrointestinal candidiasis and intestinal candidiasis are prescribed 1 tablet (500 thousand units) 2-4 times a day, the course of treatment is 10-12 days.
Recommended doses for children depending on age:
- Up to 2 years: 25-30 thousand units per kilogram of weight per day;
- 2-6 years: 20-25 thousand units / kg / day;
- Over 6 years old: 200-250 thousand units 2-4 times a day.
The duration of treatment is 7-14 days. If necessary, after 5-7 days the course is repeated, therapy is carried out under the control of a blood test.
The ointment is applied topically in the form of an aqueous suspension (diluted in a ratio of 1: 500). If the oral mucosa is damaged, it is used for rinsing 2-3 times a day; for diseases of the genital organs in women - for wetting tampons. The duration of treatment is 15-20 days.
Outwardly, the ointment is applied to the affected areas 1-2 times a day for 10-15 days.
Side effects
- Ingestion: headache, dyspeptic symptoms (nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea), loss of appetite;
- When applied topically: local irritating effect.
Also, the drug can cause allergic reactions (often manifested by itchy skin) and dermatitis.

With prostate hypertrophy, Levorin helps to reduce dysuric phenomena, and in some cases - and the size of prostate adenoma (it is believed that the drug can be used as part of complex therapy for this disease).
Application during pregnancy and lactation

- pregnancy: therapy is contraindicated;
- lactation period: the drug should be used under medical supervision.
Levorin ointment during pregnancy and lactation is prescribed with caution.
Pediatric use
For patients under 2 years of age, the drug is prescribed under medical supervision.
With impaired renal function
The drug in the form of tablets for renal failure is contraindicated.
For violations of liver function
