Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active substance of Hexo Broncho - guaifenesin, has a stimulating effect on the receptors of the gastric mucosa, it enhances the secretion of the glands of the gastrointestinal tract and reflexively increases the secretion of the glands of the respiratory tract. Due to this, there is a decrease in viscosity and an increase in the volume of bronchial secretions. Other effects include stimulation of the vagus nerve endings in the bronchial glands and stimulation of certain centers in the brain, which results in improved sputum discharge. After application, guaifenesin has an expectorant effect for 24 hours.

The components of the syrup, when swallowed, have a warming, soothing and softening effect.

Pharmacokinetics

When taken orally, guaifenesin is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. C max and T Cmax (maximum concentration of the substance and the time to reach it) in the blood of healthy adult volunteers after oral administration of 600 mg of guaifenesin (30 ml of syrup) are approximately 0.001 4 mg / ml and 15 minutes, respectively.

T 1/2 (half-life) is approximately one hour. The substance was not detected in the blood after approximately 8 hours.

Guaifenesin metabolism occurs in the liver, excretion is carried out mainly by the kidneys.
