Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is a field of medicine that deals with the study, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. And although in the human body there are no organs at all that would not be important, nevertheless the gastrointestinal tract is of particular importance, since how much and what quality of energy all other systems will receive directly depends on its state. Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract directly affect the state of the whole organism in general, and disorders in this area always lead to a deterioration in the state of health in general.

Another feature of gastroenterology is that gastrointestinal diseases are practically never isolated, and a disease of one organ will certainly impair the functioning of the rest. This is due to the anatomical features of the gastrointestinal tract. At its core, it is a long tube that begins with the oral cavity and ends with the anus. Absolutely all organs that make up this "tube" are interconnected.

The digestion process is one of the most complex processes in the body, and its well-coordinated activity is ensured not only by the digestive organs themselves. It is regulated by the nervous and endocrine systems, and a failure in the normal functioning of at least one of the links in this complex chain negatively affects digestion. That is why gastroenterology closely interacts with neurology and endocrinology.

Diseases of the gastrointestinal tract are currently the most common pathology. The way of life of a modern person, with constant stress, lack of daily routine and nutrition, negatively affects the work of the digestive system. Unfortunately, the culture of food consumption is in deep decline, since childhood, people are accustomed to snacks, fast food and carbonated drinks, to the abundance of food with refined sugar and other junk food. As a result, sad statistics say that every second person at the age of 30 has one or another pathology of the gastrointestinal tract, which means that gastroenterology will remain the number one medical science for a long time.

However, medicine also does not stand still, and in the field of modern gastroenterology there are many achievements. In many ways, the success of treatment is determined by the success of the diagnosis. Various methods of medical imaging (endoscopy, CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray diagnostics) have ensured the accuracy of the diagnosis, and modern discoveries, such as the role of Helicobacter pylori in the occurrence of gastrointestinal diseases, have made treatment much more effective.
