Colds is a remedy for the symptomatic treatment of acute respiratory diseases.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - powder for preparation of a solution for oral administration: almost white or white, with a black currant smell (5 g each in disposable sachets, 5 or 10 sachets in a cardboard box).
Composition of active ingredients in 1 sachet:
- paracetamol - 750 mg;

- phenylephrine hydrochloride - 10 mg.
Auxiliary components: sodium saccharinate, sugar, citric acid, sodium citrate pentahemihydrate, blackcurrant flavoring (food powder).
Pharmacological properties
Colds have an antipyretic, sympathomimetic, analgesic and vitamin C deficiency replenishing effect.
Pharmacodynamics
The action of Colds is due to the properties of its constituent components.
Paracetamol has an analgesic and antipyretic effect: it reduces pain (headache and sore throat), reduces fever.
Ascorbic acid replenishes the increased need for vitamin C in cases of flu and colds, especially at the onset of the disease.
Phenylephrine is a sympathomimetic, eliminates edema and narrows the vessels of the nasal mucosa and nasopharynx, as a result of which it facilitates nasal breathing, reduces the manifestations of the common cold.
The action of Colds is noted 20-30 minutes after ingestion and lasts for 4-4.5 hours.
Pharmacokinetics
Data on the pharmacokinetics of the drug are not provided.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Colds is used for the symptomatic treatment of colds and flu: lowering elevated body temperature, eliminating sore throat when swallowing, feeling nasal congestion, chills and headache.
Contraindications
- thyrotoxicosis;
- angle-closure glaucoma;
- pheochromocytoma;
- diabetes;
- arterial hypertension;
- diseases of the cardiovascular system (including tachyarrhythmia, severe aortic stenosis and acute myocardial infarction);
- hyperplasia of the prostate;
- children up to age 14;
- period of pregnancy and lactation;
- simultaneous use of drugs containing paracetamol, beta-blockers, tricyclic antidepressants;
- joint use of MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitors and a period of 14 days after their withdrawal;
- hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
Colds should be used with caution in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, blood diseases, renal / hepatic failure, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital hyperbilirubinemia (including Rotor, Gilbert and Dubin-Johnson syndromes), as well as in elderly patients.
Instructions for the use of Colds: method and dosage
Colds are taken orally after dissolution: the contents of the sachet must be poured into a glass, filled with hot water, stirred until completely dissolved, add sugar or honey if desired.
Adults and adolescents from 14 years old are prescribed 1 packet every 4-6 hours, but no more than 4 packets per day.
The duration of taking the drug without medical advice should not exceed 5 days. If the condition does not improve, you should see your doctor.
Side effects
- from the digestive system: rarely - epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting;
- on the part of the hematopoietic system: rarely - agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia;
- allergic reactions: sometimes - skin rashes, urticaria, itching, angioedema;
- others: rarely - urinary retention, increased intraocular pressure.
Phenylephrine hydrochloride may cause increased blood pressure, headache, nausea; rarely - palpitations. These phenomena are temporary and disappear after the drug is stopped.
With prolonged use of Colds in doses exceeding the recommended ones, nephrotoxic and hepatotoxic effects may develop.
Overdose
An overdose of paracetamol is possible after taking 10–15 g (which corresponds to 15–20 sachets of Colds).
After 12–48 hours, the following symptoms are noted: pallor of the skin, decreased appetite, nausea, epigastric discomfort, vomiting, increased prothrombin time, increased activity of hepatic transaminases, hepatonecrosis, the severity of which directly depends on the degree of overdose. After 1-6 days, a detailed picture of liver damage appears. In rare cases, impaired hepatic function develops with lightning speed and is complicated by renal failure (renal tubular necrosis).
Treatment: gastric lavage, elimination of the symptoms that have arisen, administration of SH-group donors and precursors of glutathione synthesis (8-9 hours after overdose - methionine, 12 hours - N-acetylcysteine). The need for additional therapeutic measures (including intravenous administration of N-acetylcysteine and further administration of methionine) is determined individually, depending on the concentration of paracetamol in the blood and the time elapsed after its administration.
special instructions
Colds can distort the results of laboratory tests for the concentration of uric acid and glucose in the blood plasma.
It is contraindicated to use simultaneously with Colds other drugs containing paracetamol, as well as chloramphenicol, rifampicin, barbiturates, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including ibuprofen, acetylsalicylic acid, metamizole), antiepileptic drugs.
The ability to take any drugs during the period of treatment with Colds should be checked with a doctor.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms
The components of the drug do not have a negative impact on the cognitive and psychophysical abilities of a person.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The drug is not prescribed for pregnant women.
Breastfeeding should be temporarily discontinued if treatment is required during lactation.
Pediatric use
The drug is not prescribed for children under 14 years of age.
With impaired renal function
In renal failure, Colds should be used with caution.
For violations of liver function
In hepatic insufficiency, Colds should be used with caution.
Use in the elderly
Colds should be used with caution in old age.
Drug interactions
Colds reduces the hypotensive effect of guanethidine and the effectiveness of uricosuric drugs. May enhance the effect of indirect anticoagulants.
Paracetamol enhances the effect of ethanol, sedatives and MAO inhibitors.
With the simultaneous use of ethanol, acute pancreatitis may develop.
Guanethidine enhances the α-adrenostimulating effect of phenylephrine, tricyclic antidepressants - its sympathomimetic effect.
Phenothiazine derivatives, antidepressants, antipsychotic and antiparkinsonian drugs increase the risk of constipation, dry mouth, urinary retention.
With the simultaneous use of glucocorticosteroids, the risk of developing glaucoma increases.
When gastric emptying is slowed down (for example, under the action of propantheline), a slow onset of the action of Colds is possible. When gastric emptying is accelerated (for example, after taking metoclopramide), a faster action of the drug is noted.
Stimulants of microsomal oxidation in the liver (for example, phenylbutazone, rifampicin, phenytoin, barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, ethanol) increase the production of hydroxylated active metabolites of paracetamol, thereby increasing the risk of severe intoxication in the event of even a small overdose of the drug.
Inhibitors of microsomal oxidation (for example, cimetidine) reduce the risk of hepatotoxic effects of Colds.
