Spray for external use Revasil
Spray for external use Revasil

Revasil is a dermatotropic drug for the treatment of alopecia.

Release form and composition

The drug is produced in the form of a spray for external use: colorless, pinkish, or yellowish, transparent liquid [50 or 100 ml in a glass bottle screwed with a plastic cap with a spray head (pump) or 50 ml in an aluminum bottle equipped with a mechanical pump, spray nozzle and safety cap; in a cardboard box 1 can or bottle and instructions for use of Revasil].

100 ml of spray contains:

  • active substance: minoxidil - 2 g;
  • additional components: propylene glycol, ethanol (ethyl alcohol) 95%, purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Minoxidil is a peripheral vasodilator. When used externally, the active ingredient enhances microcirculation in the area of hair follicles. The drug provides stimulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), presumably responsible for the increase in capillary permeability, which is a confirmation of the high metabolic activity recorded in the anagen phase (active growth phase).

Revasil causes hair growth in individuals with hereditary increased hair loss (androgenic alopecia) in the early stages. The exact mechanism of action of the active substance in the treatment of androgenic alopecia is not fully understood.

Pharmacokinetics

When used externally, Minoxidil is poorly absorbed through intact skin, approximately 1.5% (1-2%) of the total applied dose enters the systemic circulation.

The mean values of the maximum concentration (C max) of the substance and the area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) are approximately 2.13 ng / ml and 18.71 ng × h / ml, respectively. The period that is required to reach the C max of minoxidil is 5.79 hours. The effect of the active substance on hemodynamics appears only when its average concentration in the blood serum is 21.7 ng / ml.

Previously, it was believed that minoxidil does not bind to blood plasma proteins, but later, using the in vitro ultrafiltration method, its reversible relationship with human blood proteins in the range of 37–39% was established. However, since only 1–2% of the active substance is absorbed when applied externally, the degree of such binding is clinically insignificant.

On average, 60% of the drug is metabolized mainly in the liver with the formation of minoxidil glucuronide. When used externally, the half-life (T 1/2) is approximately 22 hours. Up to 97% of the main substance and its metabolites are eliminated by the kidneys, and 3% through the intestines. After completion of therapy, about 95% of the externally applied minoxidil is excreted within 4 days.

Indications for use

Spray Revasil is recommended for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in men and women.

Contraindications

Absolute:

  • dermatoses and violations of the integrity of the skin of the scalp;
  • age under 18 and over 65;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • simultaneous treatment with other agents applied to the scalp;
  • hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

Relative (use Revasil spray against hair loss with caution): cardiovascular disease, arrhythmia, renal and / or hepatic failure.

Revasil, instructions for use: method and dosage

Revasil is for external use only.

The spray is recommended to be applied to the affected areas of the scalp, starting from the center of the problem area. On the affected area, regardless of its size, the solution should be applied using a dispenser in a dose of 1 ml (7 clicks) 2 times a day. The maximum daily dose is 2 ml.

To achieve the desired effect, it is necessary to ensure that the solution enters the hair follicles. For this, it is required to spray it not on the hair, but only on the dry skin of the scalp. Do not spray other areas of the body with the spray. You do not need to rinse off the solution; after completing the procedure, be sure to wash your hands.

When using Revasil in men, it is most effective in cases of hair loss at the crown, in women - hair loss in the middle part.

The first signs of suspension of hair loss, as well as restoration of hair growth can be observed after using the drug 2 times a day for 2-4 months.

To achieve and maintain the positive effect of the treatment, you should not interrupt the use of Revasil, since otherwise hair loss will resume.

More frequent use of the drug or an increase in its dose does not lead to better results of therapy.

If no improvement in hair growth is observed within 16 weeks after using Revasil, its use should be discontinued.

After the start of the course of therapy, an increase in hair loss may be observed. This effect is due to the influence of minoxidil and is expressed in stimulating the transition of hair from the resting phase (telogen) to the anagen phase. As a result, the loss of old hair occurs, in the place of which new ones grow. As a rule, a temporary increase in hair loss occurs within 2-6 weeks from the start of treatment, and then decreases within 2 weeks. If increased hair loss persists, treatment with Revasil should be discontinued and a specialist should be consulted.

There are no recommendations for dosing the spray in patients with renal and / or hepatic impairment.

Side effects

  • immune system: very rarely - allergic contact dermatitis, angioedema, including the tongue, oropharynx, pharynx, lips, oral tissues; hypersensitivity in the form of facial edema and tightness in the throat, generalized pruritus, generalized erythema;
  • skin and subcutaneous tissues: often - rash, itching; rarely - dermatitis, the manifestations of which are redness, peeling and inflammation; extremely rare - violation of hair texture, change in hair color, temporary hair loss, hypertrichosis (unwanted hair growth outside the application site); reactions at the site of application (can spread to the ears and face) - dry skin, rash, edema, irritation, itching, pain, erythema; in some cases - exfoliation, dermatitis, bleeding, blistering, ulceration;
  • nervous system: often - headache; extremely rare - dizziness;
  • respiratory system, chest and mediastinal organs: extremely rare - shortness of breath;
  • cardiovascular system: infrequently - lowering blood pressure (BP); extremely rare - palpitations, tachycardia;
  • organ of vision: extremely rare - eye irritation;
  • digestive tract: extremely rare - nausea, vomiting;
  • general disorders: extremely rare - chest pain, peripheral edema.

Overdose

When Revasil is applied in doses exceeding the recommended ones on large areas of the scalp or other areas of the body, systemic absorption of minoxidil may increase, and as a result, the development of undesirable side reactions may be aggravated. Symptoms of an overdose of the drug may be fluid retention, dizziness, decreased blood pressure, tachycardia.

For the treatment of the condition in order to eliminate fluid retention, diuretics can be used, in the treatment of tachycardia - β-blockers, for the normalization of blood pressure, intravenous administration of a 0.9% sodium chloride solution is indicated. Symptomatic agents with excessively high cardiac stimulating activity, such as epinephrine and norepinephrine, should not be used.

special instructions

Spray Revasil should be used to treat the affected areas exclusively on the scalp. It is necessary to apply the solution only to dry skin. If the procedure is carried out after bathing, the skin should be dried. It is allowed to wash your hair after the procedure no earlier than 4 hours after applying the spray. If the preparation was applied to the skin with the fingertips, after applying the solution, the hands must be thoroughly washed. During therapy, hair should be washed as usual, you can use hairspray and various hair care products. Before applying the latter, you should first apply Revasil and wait until the area treated with it is completely dry.

There is no data to indicate that perm, hair coloring or the use of hair softeners can reduce the effect of Revasil. However, in order to prevent the risk of irritation of the treated skin areas, make sure that the solution is completely rinsed from the scalp and hair before using these chemicals.

Before starting therapy, it is recommended to undergo a general examination, including collecting and studying a medical history so that the doctor is convinced that the skin of the scalp is healthy.

If, during treatment, severe skin reactions or systemic disorders appear, it is necessary to stop using Revasil and consult a specialist.

Revasil therapy will not be effective in the following cases:

  • hair care products are used that can lead to scarring or deep burns to the scalp;
  • a hairdryer is used after treating the skin with a drug;
  • hair styling is carried out in tight hairstyles that require strong pulling of hair from the scalp, including braiding (tight braids), dreadlocks or a ponytail.

This medicine contains ethyl alcohol, which increases the risk of eye inflammation and irritation. In case of accidental contact of the solution on sensitive surfaces (eyes, mucous membranes, irritated skin), they must be rinsed with plenty of cold water.

The spray should be applied only to healthy areas of the skin. It should not be used if the skin is irritated, inflamed, infected and sore, or in combination with other products applied to the scalp.

Revasil is not recommended for use in cases of alopecia areata, sudden hair loss, postpartum alopecia, or related to the use of medications, unbalanced diet (lack of vitamin A, iron), and also when the cause of hair loss has not been identified.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

During pregnancy and lactation, the use of Revasil spray for hair loss is contraindicated.

Pediatric use

For patients under 18 years of age, treatment with Revasil is contraindicated.

In the presence of impaired renal function, it is necessary to consult a doctor before starting the course of using Revasil.

Use in the elderly

Persons over the age of 65 should not use Revasil.

Reviews about Revasil

In most cases, reviews about Revasil are positive. Patients (especially women) note the effectiveness of the drug in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. They note that the drug significantly reduces hair loss and stimulates hair growth.

However, many patients indicate that tangible results are often seen only 6–8 months after the start of therapy. They also emphasize that the use of the spray is required almost constantly, since after the termination of treatment, the entire effect disappears and hair loss resumes. Sometimes they complain about a very weak effect of Revasil or a complete lack of improvement even with a fairly long use. Patients also attribute the disadvantages of the spray to its high cost and inconvenient dispenser.
