Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Metronidazole exhibits antiparasitic and antimicrobial properties and demonstrates activity against a large number of pathogenic microorganisms. The substance is especially effective in relation to papulopustular inflammatory elements of rosacea. It is assumed that one of the components of the drug's mechanism of action is the anti-inflammatory effect.

The activity of the agent was noted against anaerobic microorganisms: Clostridium perfringens, Clostridium difficile, Clostridium, Bilophila, Bifidobacterium, Bacteroides fragilis, Fusobacterium, Eubacterium, Porphyromonas, Prevotella, Peptostreptococcus, Veillonella; gram-negative aerobic: Helicobacter pylori; protozoa: Trichomonas vaginalis, Giardia intestinalis, Entamoeba histolytica.

Anaerobic microorganisms - Propionibacterium acnes, Mobiluncus and gram-positive aerobes Actinomyces are resistant to the action of Rosex.

Pharmacokinetics

The maximum concentration (C max) of the active substance in the blood serum when 1 g of cream is applied to the skin of the face is on average 32.9 ng / ml (range 14.8–54.4 ng / ml), and when gel is applied - 29.1 ng / ml (range 19.1–42.7 ng / ml). This volume does not exceed 0.5% of the average Cmax of metronidazole in the blood serum after oral administration in the form of tablets at a dose of 0.25 g.

The peak concentration of the agent in the blood serum after external application of the cream / gel is reached after 6-24 hours, while the content of metronidazole at the site of application is much higher than in plasma.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Rosex is recommended for use in the treatment of rosacea.

Contraindications

  • childhood;
  • hypersensitivity to any of the constituents of the drug.

Instructions for the use of Rosex: method and dosage

Rosex gel and cream are intended exclusively for external use.

The drug is applied 2 times a day (in the morning and in the evening) with a thin layer on the previously cleansed areas of the skin affected by rosacea, preventing the drug from getting into the eyes, on the mucous membranes of the nose and lips.

The average course of therapy is 3-4 months.

Depending on the effectiveness of the remedy and the severity of the condition, on the recommendation of the attending physician, it is possible to increase the duration of treatment by another 3-4 months.

In the absence of obvious positive dynamics, the use of the cream / gel Rosex must be discontinued.

Side effects

  • skin and subcutaneous tissues: often - soreness / tingling, burning sensation of the skin, itching, erythema, irritation / dryness of the skin, increased manifestations of rosacea; with an unknown frequency - facial swelling, skin peeling, contact dermatitis;
  • nervous system: infrequently - paresthesia, synesthesia, metallic taste in the mouth;
  • gastrointestinal tract: infrequently - nausea.

If any of the above disorders are aggravated or other side effects are observed, an urgent need to consult a specialist.

Overdose

Cases of overdose by Roseks have not been recorded.

special instructions

In case of accidental contact with mucous membranes or eyes, it is recommended to immediately rinse thoroughly with plenty of warm water.

Since metronidazole is a nitroimidazole derivative, it should be used with caution in the presence of blood disorders.

If, against the background of treatment with Rozex, there are signs of skin irritation, it is necessary to reduce the frequency of application of the drug or refuse to use it and, if necessary, consult a doctor.

During the period of therapy, exposure to direct sunlight, sunlight lamps, and also visiting a solarium should be avoided, since as a result of the action of ultraviolet radiation, the effectiveness of metronidazole is significantly reduced (it is converted into an inactive metabolite).

Long-term treatment with the drug is not recommended.

After applying the gel or cream Rozex, you can use cosmetics that do not show comedogenic and astringent properties.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Taking into account the clinical experience of using Rosex and its pharmacodynamic profile, a negative impact on the ability to control transport and other mechanisms during treatment is not expected.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

There is no clinical experience with the external use of metronidazole during pregnancy.

It is known that when taken orally, the drug penetrates the placental barrier. According to the results of studies conducted on animals, with oral administration of the toxic effect of the drug on the fetus, it was not revealed. But, at the same time, there is evidence of the carcinogenic properties of metronidazole, found when it is ingested by some rodents. As a result, pregnant women are allowed to use Rozex only on the recommendation of the attending physician in cases where there are clear indications for external use of the drug.

Metronidazole after oral administration is excreted in breast milk in concentrations equal to plasma concentrations. The level of the active substance in the blood after external application is significantly lower than when it is taken internally. However, despite this, if it is necessary to use Rosex during lactation, it is necessary to resolve the issue of stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing drug therapy, taking into account the assessment of the expected therapeutic effect for the mother and the potential risk to the child's health.

Pediatric use

Rozex therapy is not prescribed for children, since the safety profile of metronidazole in patients of this age category has not been studied.

Use in the elderly

When using the drug in elderly patients, dose changes are not required.

Drug interactions

When using Rosex, there were no cases of interaction with other drugs / preparations.

There is no need to exercise caution because of the threat of an increase in prothrombin time with the combined use of the drug with indirect anticoagulants (including warfarin), since this warning applies only to oral metronidazole dosage forms.

Reviews about Rosex

There are many reviews about Rosex, and they are rather contradictory. One group of patients considers the drug to be an effective treatment for rosacea. According to their reviews, the cream and gel eliminate inflammation and redness, remove papules, block the emergence of new lesions, cleanse the face of comedones, and reduce the oily skin. According to another group of patients, the use of Rosex does not give positive results, the effect of treatment is insignificant or short-term, which requires repeated courses, and in some cases leads to addiction.

Many patients find the cost of the drug too high. The occurrence of adverse reactions, mainly burning and itching, is rarely indicated.

Price for Rosex in pharmacies

The approximate price for Rosex can be (for 30 g in a package):
