Blown back: how to cure myositis at home?
Almost everyone is familiar with annoying, pulling, twisting pains caused by hypothermia of the back muscles. Sometimes the inflammatory process is not limited to discomfort, but is accompanied by edema, the appearance of seals, and an increase in temperature. With improper treatment, acute myositis can lead to a chronic illness or aggravation of other pathologies of the back (vertebral hernia, osteochondrosis), so it is important to pay attention to the symptoms of the disease in time and begin to eliminate them.

Medication assistance
In most cases, hypothermia-induced myositis of the back muscles can be treated at home without going to a doctor. Having diagnosed the disease (pain that arose after sudden temperature changes, drafts and did not pass after rest), it is recommended to stay in bed for at least three days, trying to prevent repeated hypothermia. The patient's bed should be hard.
Treatment regimen:
- excluding the kidney area, apply a warming ointment ("Voltaren", "Finalgon", "Kapsikam") to the painful area or rub with a semi-alcoholic or vodka solution, then wrap your back with a warm cloth. Using the ointment, one should be sure that the back is chilled, since warming of bacterial myositis threatens the development of a purulent process;
- take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (indomethacin, diclofenac, rheumoxicam) according to the instructions;
- with severe pain, you can use anesthetic medications (baralgin, ketorol, analgin), but it must be borne in mind that the previous group of drugs also has the ability to analgesia, it is undesirable to combine such drugs.
During therapy, it is recommended to limit the intake of fluids and salt (to prevent swelling). If after three days the pain has not diminished, but intensified, therapy should be discontinued and a specialist should be consulted to clarify the diagnosis. Sometimes lower back pain in a woman may not speak of myositis, but of an aggravated disease of the reproductive organs, and severe discomfort under the left shoulder blade may be a harbinger of myocardial infarction.
Traditional medicine
Having excluded contraindications for consulting a doctor, when treating hypothermia of the back at home, you can use folk remedies (many of which are not inferior in effectiveness to pharmaceutical drugs). These include:
- cabbage leaf compress. A leaf of white cabbage must be greased with honey, applied to the affected area and secured with a bandage. To enhance the warming effect, vegetable oil and mustard (or horseradish) can be added to honey in equal proportions;
- boiled potato compress. It is recommended to lay out hot potatoes, mashed in mashed potatoes, cooked "in their uniforms" on the affected area covered with two or three layers of cotton cloth. When the mass has cooled down, remove the potatoes, rub the back thoroughly with cologne or vodka and wrap it warmly. The procedure is best done at night;
- rubbing with fir balsam. 100 ml of melted fat (pork or goose) must be mixed with 100 ml of fir oil and applied as a compress on the skin for half an hour or an hour, then wrap your back. It is recommended to store the balm in a sterilized container with a tight lid. Before starting the procedure, make sure that there is no allergic reaction to the oil - for this, mix 10 drops of any vegetable oil with 1 drop of fir and apply on a small area of the skin. In the absence of signs of irritation, the balm can be used for treatment.
A light massage with essential oils will help relieve tension from the muscles by relaxing them. To get rid of the spasm, it is recommended to lubricate the sore spot with a mixture of vegetable and aromatic oils (2: 1) and gently rub with stroking movements, in no case using force. The oils of mint, lavender, sage, juniper have an analgesic effect; oils of ginger, lemon, chamomile are antipyretic.
What can not be done if the back is blown?
For acute back pain caused by hypothermia, it is not recommended:
- visit a sauna or take a hot bath;
- make very hot compresses;
- apply a thick layer of warming ointment;
- do therapeutic exercises, do yoga.

Procedures aimed at excessive warming of the area can lead to the opposite effect - the formation of edema, increased inflammation and pain, which will aggravate the course of the disease. Taking a bath before recovery is not recommended - it is better to warm your back under a warm shower.
It is advisable to perform restorative exercises only after the muscle spasm has been removed with warm compresses and the nature of the pain changes from sharp and deep to aching and superficial. And even in this case, gymnastics should be done with great care, stopping classes immediately if discomfort arises.
