Angina is an inflammation of the tonsils of the pharyngeal ring, which can be provoked by viruses, bacteria or fungi. The disease can occur in both adults and children. Pathogenic microorganisms are transmitted by airborne droplets or by contact. They are introduced into the mucous membrane, causing intoxication and provoking the development of unpleasant symptoms.

Symptoms of sore throat

The disease begins with sore throat and discomfort and fever. The patient does not feel well, he becomes weak, his appetite disappears. The tonsils become swollen and enlarged. There is a sore throat, which is worse when food or saliva is swallowed and may be given to the ears. An increase in regional lymph nodes is possible.

With purulent sore throat in the tonsils, yellow-white plugs appear, with lacunar - pus accumulates in the area of lacunae. In patients with a fungal form of pathology, a white-yellow curdled plaque appears, under which bleeding sores are found. In most cases, body temperature with angina rises to 39-40 ° C.

How to treat a sore throat at home

What to do when it was not possible to avoid the disease? In the absence of serious chronic pathologies or suspected complications, the treatment of angina is carried out at home. In order to diagnose the disease, the patient needs to consult an otolaryngologist.

Treatment of angina in adults at home begins with the creation of certain conditions. In order to quickly get rid of symptoms, you must adhere to the following rules:

  • monitor the temperature and humidity in the room. If the room is dry and hot, it will dry out the mucous membrane, causing the sore throat to worsen. The air should be humid and cool. The room in which the patient is located should be regularly ventilated to avoid the accumulation of pathogens in the air;
  • observe bed rest. If a person suffers a sore throat on the legs, the likelihood of developing serious complications increases significantly. It should also be borne in mind that the patient is a source of infection, which is secreted along with saliva when coughing, sneezing and talking;
  • observe the drinking regime. In order to eliminate intoxication, it is necessary to drink at least two liters of liquid per day (tea with lemon, compote, dried fruit decoction or still mineral water);
  • monitor nutrition. Salty, sour and spicy foods should be excluded from the menu. In order to reduce pain when swallowing, the food must be ground to a puree state. You need to eat in small portions, while the food should not be too cold or too hot.

The earlier the treatment of angina in adults at home is started, the more chances of curing the disease at an early stage are. If discomfort in the throat appears, you should immediately start using antiseptic lozenges or tablets, without waiting for severe pain. They are used, according to the instructions, from 4 to 8 times a day.

At the first symptoms of a sore throat, honey can be absorbed; it also has an antiseptic effect. To prevent the development of the inflammatory process, you need to rinse your throat with a solution of salt and soda (one teaspoon per 200 ml of warm water).

On the effectiveness of warming compresses for acute angina, the opinions of doctors were divided. Many experts believe that increased circulation in the affected area will lead to the fact that pathogens begin to multiply faster. The main contraindication to the use of this method of therapy is an increased body temperature.

Drug therapy

With purulent sore throat, the causative agent of which is streptococcus or staphylococcus bacteria, therapy includes antibiotics. Most often, drugs from the group of penicillins (Amoxicillin, Amoxil, Augmentin) or cephalosporins (Ceftriaxone, Cefutil, Zinnat, Bactyl) are prescribed, in some cases macrolides are used (Azithromycin, Summamed).

Depending on the severity of the disease and the age of the patient, drugs are used in the form of a suspension, tablets, intramuscular or intravenous injections. The dose should be prescribed by a doctor in an in-person consultation.

In order to restore the microflora in the intestine after taking antibiotics and improve immunity, agents containing lacto- and bifidobacteria (Linex, Laktovit, Laktiale) are prescribed in complex therapy.

In order to reduce pain and lower body temperature, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used. Most often, ibuprofen (Nurofen, Imet, Bofen) or paracetamol (Panadol, Efferalgan) is prescribed. Nimesulide-based drugs (Nimesil, Nimid, Nimulid) can be used as a pain reliever.

With fungal sore throat, antibiotics are ineffective. For the treatment of this form of the disease, antimycotics are used (Fluconazole, Nystatin, Fucis).

To reduce pain in the throat, eliminate swelling of the tonsils, cope with inflammation, soften the mucous membrane, and also accelerate the regeneration of the epithelium, local antiseptics are used. The composition of such drugs includes means to eliminate discomfort in the throat, antimicrobial components, local anesthetics and essential oils.

The most commonly used and effective means for treating the disease include Strepsils, Septolete, Lisobakt, Angilex, Ingalipt. Medicines are produced in the form of lozenges and aerosols.

Rinses

In order to reduce inflammation and pain, reduce intoxication and accelerate the regeneration of the mucous membrane, rinses are used.

You can treat angina at home using the following means:

  • Hydrogen peroxide. Upon contact with the mucous membrane, active oxygen is released, which allows it to be cleansed of the waste products of bacteria and pus. Do not use a concentrated product to rinse your throat. First, one tablespoon of the drug is dissolved in 100 ml of water. The procedure is carried out within 3 minutes. The break between them should be at least 2 hours. At the end of rinsing, the remaining hydrogen peroxide must be washed off with clean water or a decoction of medicinal herbs;
  • Miramistin. The agent is effective against bacteria, fungi and some types of viruses. In most cases, it is used undiluted. One tablespoon of the solution is enough for rinsing. The procedure is carried out within three minutes 3-4 times a day after meals;
  • Furacilin. It is a strong antiseptic that fights staphylococcus and streptococcus bacteria, which are often the causative agents of sore throats. To prepare the solution, one tablet of Furacilin is dissolved in 100 ml of boiling water or saline. Gargle every 3 hours;
  • Potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate). The solution has an antiseptic and antimicrobial effect due to its ability to release oxygen during the oxidation of organic substances. To rinse the throat, use a pale pink solution of potassium permanganate. The procedure is carried out 3-4 times during the day;
  • decoctions of herbs. For gargling, chamomile or calendula flowers, sage, eucalyptus or primrose leaves, oak bark are used. They can be applied individually or collected. To prepare the infusion, the raw material is poured with boiling water and infused for 30–40 minutes. You can gargle with such means every 2-3 hours. They can be alternated with Furacilin, Miramistin or Hydrogen Peroxide solutions.

Inhalation

Treatment of angina at home can be supplemented with inhalation. For this purpose, infusions of the same medicinal herbs are used as for gargling. The herbs are poured over with hot water and, after the product has cooled to a comfortable temperature, they bend over the container, covered with a terry towel or blanket.

Alkaline mineral water or soda solution is also used for inhalation. For its preparation, one teaspoon of soda is added to 200 ml of hot water. This procedure is carried out 2-3 times a day. Another popular inhaler is boiled potatoes in their uniforms.

Inhalation must be carried out correctly, too hot steam can cause burns to the mucous membrane. Also, you can not do these procedures at elevated body temperature.

These methods of therapy will help the body to cope with the disease faster and prevent the development of complications. If the sore throat does not go away, but is supplemented by other symptoms, you should consult a doctor.
