Pharmacological properties
Pharmacodynamics
Amtersol is a combined drug, the action of which is due to the properties of its constituent components:
- extract of licorice root: has an expectorant effect due to the presence of glycyrrhizin in its composition, which enhances the secretory function of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract;
- extract of thermopsis: its expectorant effect is explained by a moderate irritant effect on the receptors of the gastric mucosa and a reflex increase in the secretion of the bronchial glands. The alkaloids contained in it (methylcytisine, anagirin, thermopsin, pachicarpin, thermopsidin) stimulate the respiratory center; when taken in high doses, the irritating effect extends to the vomiting center;
- ammonium chloride: has diuretic and expectorant properties;
- potassium bromide: suppresses the excitability of the central nervous system;
- sodium benzoate: food additive with a preservative effect.
