Starvation
Fasting (inedia) is a state of the body caused by the complete absence or insufficient intake of nutrients into the body, or a sharp violation of their assimilation.
Fasting types:
- absolute (absoluta) - caused by a complete lack of food and water;
- protein (proteinica) - developing against the background of a chronic lack of proteins in food, leading to a negative nitrogen balance;
- vitamin (synonym: vitamin deficiency) - a set of pathological conditions caused by a lack of vitamins in the body;
- water (aquatilis) - characterized by a negative water balance and appearing with a lack of water in the diet, its massive loss due to hard physical work, vomiting, diarrhea, intense sweating;
- fatty (adipica) - caused by a chronic deficiency or lack of fat in food;
- mineral (mineralis) - a deficiency or constant absence in food of one or more minerals necessary for the body;
- incomplete (incompleta; synonym: malnutrition) - developing against a background of nutrition that is insufficient to cover the plastic and energy needs of the body;
- complete (completa) - in the absence of food, but in the presence of water;
- carbohydrate (carbohydratica) - due to a lack of carbohydrates in food, or some metabolic disorders (for example, diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemic conditions, etc.);
- partial (partialis; synonym: qualitative) - caused by insufficient intake of individual food components into the body.
